host dan hughes is taking a one month sabbatical....

Started 1369191618.607 in Viewpoints | Last reply 1369510899.217 by Debbie1010

just read on the home shoppingista blog that dan hughes is taking some time off from qvc..... but will return.

http://homeshoppingista.wordpress.com/2013/05/22/qvc-host-dan-hughes-taking-a-powder-but-not-for-long/

“Just want to let my friends know that I will soon be taking some time away from QVC,” Hughes posted on Facebook.

“NO I am not leaving. After a lot of thought Kelly and I have decided that it is time for me to take some time for myself and complete a few of my ‘bucket list’ projects,” he wrote. “I will be taking the entire month of June as a sabbatical.

QVC host Dan Hughes is rather mysteriously taking a respite from his gig on the home shopping network. But it’s not for good, he assures us.

Other than my unexpected medical leave this Feb. I have never really taken any extended time away from my career. I am sure The Q will be just fine without me for a month and I am truly grateful to have such wonderful employers to allow me to do so. Just wanted to stall any rumors that I was leaving lol.”

So, he is taking a month off, no big deal. I hope he enjoys his time off.

Isn't he the one who has had some serious health issues, or was that Dan Wheeler. One of them did a few months back.

RainCity....it was Dan Huges that had the medical issue...

I am wondering if its his health that is making his decision to take June off...

I hope he is well...and relaxes on his time off....

I know he has a farm and there is a lot of work to be done on a farm....

Lots of hard work on farms.......animals to tend, etc. Wishing Dan the very best. He is truly a fine and caring person. Most people who love farming and pets and animals are 'the salt of the earth', as they say.

Good for Dan! I'm sure he's earned a sabbatical. {#emotions_dlg.thumbup} I hope that he and his wife have a wonderful time together.

I'd never heard the expression "taking a powder". I had to look it up. Does anyone say that? It appears to be rather antiquated.

Enjoy your time off Dan, whoever you are.

I do hope he is okay -- After his recent health scare (from what I've read on here), maybe he just decided that life is too short and that he wants to finally take some time for himself to do the things he enjoys.

I wish him well!

Good for him. I wouldn't consider a month off a sabbatical, though.

ITA Given how long he's been there, he's definitely earned 4 weeks off. I wonder what made him feel he had to announce it. Whatever the case I hope he accomplishes his ultimate goals.

Good for him if he can do it. He had health problems and he's still young enough so he might as well enjoy life. I honestly wouldn't even have noticed because it seems like all the hosts are always on month long vacations, LOL!!

I've been in the business world long enough to know what this means....I would bet he doesn't return, It's guised under many different labels (I.e. retirement, another job, health issues), but the result is the same,

I wish him the best. Do you think he could take the other Dan with him? Maybe Rick, too. {#emotions_dlg.biggrin}

LOL, maybe one month off in the tv industry is considered a sabbatical.....Wink...... you probably never want to be gone TOO long for fear of being replaced.

My son has four weeks vacation a year, or more. I think he just calls it vacation.

I hope Dan is okay and just doing some projects around his farm.

I have always loved the story about how he and Kelly met and hope they have a long, happy life together. Glad that the Q is allowing him time to work on his dreams.

Over the years, many explanations have been proffered:

• it started as a reference to gunpowder, which explosively propels bullets and shells
• it’s a reference to a laxative powder, which would cause you to run to the nearest toilet
• it’s a reference to the dust that our feet raise when we are scampering off
• it’s a reference to the “magical” powder used by magicians to make things disappear

i have definitely heard it before..... not often though.

No matter the reason, I just hope they enjoy their time together. I think it would be wonderful to take a month off. Good luck and have fun kids.

Some people should use a glue stick instead of chapstick.

I love how in scary movies the person yells out, "Hello?" As if the killer is going to be like, "Yeah, I'm in the kitchen, want a sandwich?"

A month will fly by. I can't believe it's Memorial Day weekend coming up already. It was just the end of March. {#emotions_dlg.ohmy} I bet that his health scare caused him to take stock of his life and realize that if he didn't take some time for his personal projects that it might never happen. Good for Dan. He will be missed, but he'll be back before we know it.
