My friend's daughter will be going to the Iowa School for the Deaf -- to take a class in January. We live in southern California. She's in a local college now - and she will be a sign-language teacher, specializing in the Bible for deaf students. Are any of you familiar with this school? She's doing fund-raising to help her pay for this class.
kivah, I am not familiar with this school, but God bless your daughter!
I wish her all the luck in the world. You must be very proud & I can understand why.
kivah, I am not familiar with the school, but it is aligned with Iowa's long-standing progran ti help visually impaired students. There is some website that talks about both.
If you ever read the "Little House" books of Laura Ingalls Wilder, it was in Vinson IA that Mary attended a school for the blind in the 1870s or early 1880s.
It's evidently a good state for programs to mainstream college for students with disabilities and always has been.
I think it is considered one of the best of its kind, or at least was when I went to college.
I didn't come here to argue.- Peg Bracken
Iowa's school for the deaf is located in Council Bluffs, IA. The school for the blind is in Vinton, Ia. I live in Iowa so am familiar with them both. There was some talk a few years ago about closing the school for the blind, but as of now, it is still in operation. Both are top quality schools.
It's my friend's daughter Haley. She's 19 yrs old - so caring and loving. She volunteers in a local church doing sign language - as there's a young boy who's deaf. She said G-d wants her to go to Iowa -- as it's her passion. Her mom is from Grundy Ctr, Iowa - near DesMoines.
that is an important job to do and hope she likes it. Wishing her well...
Good luck to your friends, daughter, kivah. She sounds like a very special girl.
We are good people here in Iowa. I'm sure she'll love being here in school. And our state is beautiful.
