Does anyone still mail Christmas cards?

Started 1352355146.43 in Viewpoints | Last reply 1352657739.757 by TCrY

i remember helping my mom mail hundreds of cards when i was a child. (ick! all those envelopes!{#emotions_dlg.scared}) when we received cards they would be displayed and by Christmas there were cards all over the house. fast forward to present day and i get fewer and fewer cards every year. last year i think i only got 3 or 4.{#emotions_dlg.unsure} makes me wonder if i should even bother this year.{#emotions_dlg.confused1}

do you send cards by mail? do you still receive very many cards?

Just a few, less than a dozen........I love getting them though, love seeing them in the mail box and wondering who they are from, tearing them open, I guess it doesn't take much to make me happy,lol.

No longer a bug! ; )

I still buy them and mail out probably 25 or so and receive about the same. I used to set them all around the house but don't anymore...Some are so pretty I hate to throw them away after a couple weeks but we're done holding onto cards for long periods of time. E-cards by email is just not the same.

Yes, I get about as many as I receive. This is a part of the holiday that I enjoy!

I also noticed that the number of cards that I recieved were getting to be less each year for several years now. I finally decided about two years ago to stop sending them. It simply got to be too much for me since I have a small business that has kept me very busy over the holidays. However since I stopped sending them I also have been getting even fewer.

We still send them. We're sending 60 this year. I've got them ready to go.

Definitely! This is a tradition that I really hate seeing going by the way side. As a child, I remember we would all get so excited to walk to the post office and see how many cards the family would get each day! Back in the "old days", we would get tons of cards! It was so much fun. We would have them displayed on the mantle. We had heavy ornate wood-work around the doorways and my sister and I would tape them all around there and it would look very festive.

I have always sent cards out myself. I am sad to say that each year the amount that I receive gets less and less. And I, myself, have cut down my list as well. But as long as I am able, physically, and financially, I will continue to do it! Some people I send to and receive, this is the only contact we have all year long --- but we still care about each other and look forward to the cards!!!

I send out close to 100. I need to order my cards -- I have them printed with one of my photos on the front.

We get close to 100 as well.

I used to send about 60 - it has gotten so expensive by the time you add in the postage and the cards with your signature and return address preprinted because I have arthritis so it is difficult to write them all out.So i have editted my list down to 40.

I love recieving them - like getting little Christmas presents in the mail.

I'm whittling my list down this year. I have been getting less and less.

I love Christmas Cards - some of the very prettiest I have saved. I always save the photo ones.

*sigh*

Yes, but a small percentage of what I once sent.

I send a lot and seems like I get back very few. So I got mad last year and I didnt send any, then I hear complaints through the grapevine that I stopped.. Whats up with that?!

good morning,

i too am still sending them and look high and dry for the right ones. and that includes my business contacts, who are pleased to receive a real card having been told. this year i may only send 25-30. I bought them last year after Christmas at Papyrus, so nice ones. And hope to get some nice ones back.

I remember abt. 8 years ago, my Dad used to send out abt. 100, and got 94 back, those were the days. My stepMom used to make -embroider - Christmas cards, and people really loved those.

Have a good one everybody.

When my Mom was still alive, she would send out about the same number and receive so many in return. They would decorate a doorway or two inside their house with all the cards. I miss that.....

Each year we get less and less, and I think that has to do more with the internet than the cost. I think we received about 15 last year. In years past, I would run out of room to hang them.

We still send about 20 out..I make my own now..I enjoy it.{#emotions_dlg.biggrin}

I still do. I don't have many to mail though, but I like finding the right cards and taking the time to send a card to people. Now if the postage keeps going up, thats a different story!

I didn't know this was a dying tradition? lol

I still send them out and to friends/family I hand deliver them w/a small gift. Th exception being my nieces/nephew - those cards are mailed because they LOVE getting things in the mail!! {#emotions_dlg.thumbup}

I mail a few. Most of mine go in my church "post office" to fellow members. We have cubbies on wall labeled A-Z and you find your cards by the 1st letter of your last name. We get 50-60 cards this way. It also helps our church's mission fund, as you donate what you would have spent on postage.

I love getting Christmas cards!

I love to send cards and receive them.

However, the amount we get has greatly decreased. I might have rec'd 10 cards last year where in the past, we'd receive 30+. We were discussing this at holiday time last year and most people said they just were opting not to do it anymore.

One of my fondest Christmas memories is seeing Daddy sitting at the kitchen table doing Christmas cards. We would send out a lot. Daddy had been in WWII and still wrote to all his GI buddies. DH and I just send out a few,mostly to international friends. There are few others we send to and I like to get special cards for them. I know I have told this story before but here goes. Several years ago we sent a letter out saying we would not be doing cards the following year and we would rather have a phone call or e-mail. Lo and behold the next year we got a nasty letter asking why we didn't send this person a card

Another favorite memory is listening to the Gene Autry radio program. He would always sing a politically incorrect Christmas Carol.

I may never pass this way again.
