QVC Hosts

I have been wondering and before any one jumps to this question I am just wondering. Many QVC host make it a point of stating how much they own, I own 2 of these or 3 of these. I know they must make a sweet salary however does anyone think that they may be required in their employment contract to purchase a certain amount of items from the corporation on a yearly basis?????. Even the newer hosts have began the I own this, I own that..

I think telling your customer that you "own one" is a good sales technique- but only if its true- I sell commercial trucks, Chevrolets, but I don't drive one- My customers are usually shocked, and I tell them "but I don't need a commercial truck"......

Customers kind of expect you to own what you sell...

Almost every sales person I've ever met tries to tell me they either own or know someone who owns the -- car, furniture, mattress, washer, dryer, stove, refrigerator, etc. that I just happened to be looking at. I don't think their contracts require them to buy items, but I think to stay employed they know it's smart to claim they own certain items. Wink

I don't think they would have to purchase items on a yearly basis like you would have to for Mary Kay, Pampered Chef or places like that. They probably get a discount on products plus they get samples from the vendors to try things out before they air.

I think a lot of times if they own it, it's because it was given to them...........the female hosts get all the make-up items they're going to be hawking on any given show and who knows what happens to all those items they open up and use while on the air (wink wink). It also helps if they get 20 or 30 percent off as an employee discount.....

They get a lot of free items to test, eat or wear.

I think the hosts own items because it was given to them....or because they trully liked the product.....but I don't believe that the Q. insists they buy....

Not required to buy a quota. What they own was freely or deeply discounted.

I listen to whether they say THEY OWN or THEY BOUGHT this item. It makes a huge difference.

Beat me what they own or the contractual obligations. I am not privy to any of their personal information.

I can say that some hosts on another shopping network, I believe them when they say they own this or that. Why? Because unless they are given free unending trial periods they would not be privy to the information they dispense on who some of these things work.

I am being specific to electronic appliances, gadgets, or whatever one chooses to call them. I've been into this field long enough to know what someone knows what they are saying about certain electronic items, and if they did not spend a lot of time using them, it is highly doubtful they would be able to explain the usages of many of these components as fully as some of them do.

Just because they say they own 2 or 3 of something doesn't mean it is true. It is called a sales tactic!

I doubt they are required to spend their money on QVC products but they probably are given some products to test at home to help them perfect a presentation.

I am just guessing.

I've heard hosts on HSN say they were given specific electronic items for X amount of time to try them and use them. Some of the hosts have taken items such as certain cameras or camcorders on vacations and used them because they were going to be selling them.

I know the hosts get a lot of items for free from the vendors. Shawn posted before on her blog about the huge box of jewelry that was sitting on her doorstep free from Joan Rivers. Or they will say the vendor was nice enough to send them a sample of the product to try before they sold it.

I think it's a very good sales spiel to say they own it and love it or they are going to buy it. I'm sure when a host says that, the phones light up with people wanting to have what the hosts have.

It's strictly a sales ploy. I imagine they get a nice discount when they do buy company merchandise.

MaryBeth is the queen of the "I own" nonsense. Her house must be big, because she "owns" everything. I often wondered if she really did. I never thought that the hosts would have to buy a certain amount of inventory. They come across a lot of merchandise first hand, and if they want to purchase, they do, with a discount I'm sure.

I really hate while they are on that they say they are "so getting this when I get off the air". I always figured that might be a line of bull, if anything.

Carolyn is a lot worse than Mary Beth about what she owns. Carolyn doesn't just own one of something, she owns multiples of the same items and in D&C she even owns multiples of the same item in the same color. She must have a clothes closet the size of a large room or two.

I like how they say their going to order the item after the show.

One of the hosts on HSN said she had a certain luggage set that they were selling. A few minutes later, the vendor pointed out something on the suitcase & the vendor looked over & said something about how she didn't notice that.

If she actually had the luggage set, she would have known that. I guess she had forgotten she just said she owned it.

I don't remember what host it was, but she said she owned the jewelry or top - whatever it was that she was selling. She was talking so fast that I guess she forgot what she had just said because she then said she had to buy one of these for herself. LOL.

I don't know who that was but Shannon Smith is ridiculous with what she claims to own.

She claimed to own like 3 stand mixers in case she misplace one? How do you misplace a stand mixer? ROFLOL

That woman must rent a storage facility for what she says she owns and buys. When SSC skincare is on, she will claim she's buying 6 kits of something.

Products are given to them to test and use as to be familiar with.

These "hosts", as they call themselves, are nothing more than salespeople.

Everything they say or do is designed to encourage us to buy buy buy. That is the bottom line.

If they actually bought or owned everything they claimed, they'd have to live at the QVC studios so that it could all fit{#emotions_dlg.huh}
