What Quirky, Uplifting Movies Should I Add to my Netflix Q? Recommendations?

What Quirky, Uplifting Movies Should I Add to my Netflix Q? I usually do not go for the blockbuster type of film. I often like independent films. But I find that I am too lazy (at this age!) to read subtitles. Any movies you can recommend? New or even old ones.

Thanks for your suggestions!

Crimes of the Heart

It stars Diane Keaton, Sisy Spacek, Jessica Lange as three quirky Southern sisters. I love that movie.

Try "What dreams may come" with Robin williams-it doesn't start off as uplifiting, but it is a very touching movie.

Enchanted April is my feel-good movie, and I also like French Kiss (a romance with Meg Ryan and Kevin Kline).

Can't get any quirkier than "Eversmile New Jersey" with Daniel Day-Lewis laying a traveling dentist in Patagonia:

Another great Indie fun movie is "The Impostors" starring Oliver Platt and Stanley Tucci as a couple of characters reminiscent of Laurel and Hardy, with Tony Shaloub, Hope Davis, and a great cast of character actors:

BE sure to watch the closing credits.

Kate and Leopold with Meg Ryan and Hugh Jackman. I loved it which was a nice surprise since I am not a Meg fan. Great story, great acting...Liev Schreiber is in it too.

Love Enchanted April.

Oh, that reminds me of another quirky movie I love: "Pieces of April" with Katie Holmes, Patricia Clarkson, and Oliver Platt:

And another quirky English flick:"Cold Comfort Farm" with Kate Beckinsale, Joanna Lumbley (AbFab), Ian McKEllan, Rufus Sewell.....

Recently viewed "My Name is Bill W." starring James Woods and James Garner. It is the story of the founder of AA. It was made in '89, and James Woods won an Emmy. If you are a James Garner fan, unfortunately he does not have a major part. I had never heard of the movie, but highly recommend it!

Sandra Bullock movies. I love the Miss Congeniality ones and All About Steve and The Proposal.

Uplifing? If funny and laughing out loud are uplifting, then yes.

Bedtimes Stories (Adam Sandler) is both uplifting and funny. A good movie for all ages.

i've seen the previews for winter's bone. it looks intense, violent and maybe depressing. what did you think of it?

Frannie1295211387.981881 PostsRegistered 9/27/2006

Loved Winter's Bone - it's not depressing at all. Very inspirational. There's a bit of violence in it - nothing too bad.

And to the OP - put The King's Speech on your Netflix "saved" list - you'll love it.

A few more: Frozen River, Henry Poole Is Here, An Education, The Holiday.

Sorry - I love movies lol.

Most of the movies you guys mentioned are not on instant. Does anyone have an "instant" list? Smile
