They are actually a Canadian TV Series called "The Murdoch Mysteries" that are now playing in the US under this new name. It stars Yannick Bisson as the main character and Hélène Joy as Dr Ogden.

I had read one of the books it is based on and really liked the characters: Detective Murdoch, a young Catholic policeman who is very interested in science; and Dr. Julia Ogden, the attractive highly educated Medical Examiner; and Officer Crabtree, the inexperienced assistant who aspires to write mystery novels. Murdoch's infatuation with the doctor who helps him solve the cases is an interesting sidebar.

It is set in Victorian Toronto and often includes "real" people of the times; Buffalo Bill, Nikola Tesla, HG Wells, etc.

If you like British mysteries, check this one out.

I guess nobody gets that station. Too bad. This is a fun "cozy mystery" in the British tradition with very likable characters.

I don't think I had heard of this series...I Googled it & found out it had been orginally called Murdoch Mysteries (2008) & repackaged as The Artful Detective.

If you do a search to record it, it's under Artful Detective.

This sounds like something I would like...I set the recorder to record both old & new shows...If I like it, I'll see if it's possible to watch the series through Netflix... starting with episode one.

Hildegarde, hope you enjoy it. They show new episodes on OVATION Saturday nights @ 8pm and 9pm est. Then they are repeated throughout the week in the afternoons (sometimes 3pm and 4pm). These are all from the first season (2008) so far.

They have just enough romance and light humor to be interesting without being corny. I find it a refreshing change from most crime dramas.
