Frank Fritz of American Pickers - Is he ill?

Started 1360756068.287 in TV Talk | Last reply 1383422700.063 by qualitygal

Fans of American Pickers - I just saw the California episode and Frank has lost a lot of weight and does not look well. I am concerned that he may be ill. Has anyone heard if he is sick? I have heard that he does have Crohn's Disease so this may be part of it. I love this show and he and Mike. If he is losing the weight on purpose, then I am happy for him. I am just hoping that there is nothing seriously wrong. He and Mike are so much fun to watch! Thanks for your replies!

Frank and Mike are planning a trip to South Jersey/Philly area in the near future as our local paper recently ran a story about them coming, so I don't think he's seriously ill.

I never thought he was ill. I just figured he lost weight.

Thanks for your replies! I am happy if he is just losing weight on purpose. DH and I just thought he looked a little unwell. Sending good thoughts to Frank!!!!

They are fun to watch and I love to see what they find in their "treasure hunts."

I love this show, as well as Pawn Stars and Storage Wars. But Pickers is my favorite. I can watch these re-runs over and over.

He was probably watching reruns of himself and decided to go on a diet. {#emotions_dlg.biggrin}

I like that answer. One of the chefs on Top Chef (the chubby guy with the old fashioned beard and mustache whose name escapes me at this minute) came back for the finale of Last Chance Kitchen a lot thinner than he'd been. He said he saw himself on TV and decided he needed to lose some weight.

Frank has Crohns disease. Crohn's disease is a form of inflammatory bowel disease (IBD). It usually affects the intestines, but may occur anywhere from the mouth to the end of the rectum (anus). Ulcerative colitis is a related condition.

I really like Pickers and Pawn Stars -- no zombies, no murders, no out of marriage affairs!! Not a huge fan of the characters on Storage Wars, but it is interesting to see what people will leave in those storage holdings!

I knew when I saw the episode that frank did not pick but instead went to stay at the shop with Danielle while rob went out to pick with mike that he had gastric bypass or lapband surgery. that was immediately came to mind! in every episode after that he began to loose weight. also, if you remember in the first ITALY episode.... mike mentions wanting a big heavy meal ( cheeseburger or steak?), frank says he didn't want to go & DIDN'T go because that meal was too heavy. when you have a weight loss surgery, you can't eat like that. IMO, his weight loss doesn't look very good on his looks...his head is HUGE and his shoulders are so narrow; it was great for his health, though.

he's not fun to watch, to me. he seems in these last two seasons to have lost some interest in the show and his ppl skills have never been what mike's are. I still watch and DVR but am not in a big hurry to watch each episode as I once was.

Awhile back, I think he realized that setting in the van so much and eating fast food on the road, was giving him a paunchy belly. I think he went on a diet for himself. I know his partner, was eating something fattening and he didn't choose to eat. So I think he's doing it for better health. Good for him.

Merry Christmas to all, and to all a good night. Santa.
