Ceramic Watch

Started 1343592485.247 in Jewelry Talk | Last reply 1343658034.203 by chrystaltree

I wanted to let the women know who have problems with arthritis, fibromyalgia, etc. that this watch is very heavy. I had ordered the white ceramic and had to return it due to it being very heavy and uncomfortable. It is a beautiful watch, but heavy. I have Fibromyalgia and it was way too heavy for me.

I have been a member on the boards for years, so this is not my first post. Just thought I would let you know!

I haven't purchased any of these ceramic watches because I think it's a fad. If I spend that much $$ on jewelry, I want to be able to wear it forever and not look like I'm wearing something that was once in style, but isn't anymore. A good gold, siver or even stainless steel watch will never be out of fashion.

If the concern is the weight of the watch, a leather strap watch has alwas been fashionable and will probably continue to be so.

I love the black ceramic watch in this collection and would have ordered it, but already have one. Trendy clothes is a fad and won't last long, but I believe ceramic watches will be here for quite some time. I see them worn for a few years now and still do. To me a watch is nothing more then a timepiece you wear on your wrist whether it's in style or not. Heck, I stll see women wearing those tiny face watches so no matter what the style is, it doesn't matter what you wear on your wrist to see the time.

Thank you for the post. I have RA and I also look for watches, bracelets that are lighter in weight. The last thing you need is something heavy on the wrist.

I have had my white ceramic watch since 1997, when they first came out. I think we will see this watch for another 10 years. IMHO

She is talking about J265115. I thought about getting it since I love the white but I thought it would feel to heavy to wear in the summer. I know ceramic watches have been around for quite some time so I don't see them as a fad item.

Ah Ha! That is a beautiful watch. I love the white. My ceramic watch is white and everybody loves it. It really updates your outfit.

I rarely buy fad items, but I did spend $100.00 for the IM white ceramic. I figured that was my top limit. So far its performed well. It has a double deployment clasp that is very easy to work for arthritic hands. I wouldn't spring that much for the Ripka ceramic or the Vicence ceramic.

I have a lot of ceramic watches and find them a lot more comfortable to wear in the hot, humid weather than stainless steel bracelet watches. As for the weight, that is partly a function of the size of the case and the quality of the ceramic. The bigger the case and the thicker (higher quality) the ceramic, the heavier the watch will be. But compared to a comparable size stainless steel watch with a solid stainless steel bracelet, the ceramic is actually lighter than the stainless steel.

If you are used to wearing thin, small, or light watches, then of course a large ceramic will feel heavier. Not everyone likes that. It's a matter of personal taste.

I'm wearing Isaac's white ceramic this summer and liking it. Yes, it's a little heavier than some of my other watches, but not terrible - and this one gets lots of compliments, quite a few from friends wearing more expensive ones. Thanks, Isaac and QVC.

I have both fibro and pretty severe arthritis, especially in my hands and wrists. I have about 10 ceramic watches and a couple of large watches that are even heavier. I find that if my watches are properly sized to firmly fit my wrist, I don't even notice the weight. I also do not think ceramics are a fad. They've been around a long time and this year are stronger than ever.

I also tried Isaac's when it was a tsv the last time- I bought light pink. Gorgeous and so well made! But I did find it too heavy to wear so I returned it.

You can't get a true feel of a watch unless it's properly sized. They all feel heavy when they droop and dangle.

Everything you said here is true. If they're properly sized and fits your wrist, you don't feel the weight. I have a very large, bold rosegold colored MK watch and when you hold it in your hand it weighs a ton. When you wear it, I don't even feel the weight of the watch. That's because it was sized correctly to fit my wrist.

I don't think the ceramic watch is a fad. Chanel created the first ceramic watch in 2000 and it is still their best selling watch. I got used to the weight of my non-Chanel, but nice ceramic, once it was sized but I don't have any hand or wrist problems.

Most people find they get used to the size and weight of a new watch very quickly, once it's sized to fit them. After a few hours you don't notice it anymore. But when you first put on a larger or heavier watch, you fell the difference. If you like the watch, you give it a chance.... if you don't, then it's not for you. Luckily there are lots of choices in all sizes and weights.

I don't have that ceramic watch but I do have a white ceramic watch. Real ceramic watches are more "substantial" than other watches but I don't think they are that heavy. Not like wearing a brick on your arm. I have a chronic pain condition that affects my arm, upper back and neck. My ceramic watch does not exacerbate the pain.
