Does anyone know what happened to "The Neely's"? Just thought of it yesterday...haven't seen them in a while. Enjoyed some of their recipes.

Don't know for sure, but I'm guessing the same thing that's happened to a lot of shows. As Food Network gets more and more into contests and "reality shows," all the real cooking shows are disappearing. Too bad; I hardly ever watch anymore. Prefer the Cooking Channel.

Interesting. Now that you mentioned it it seemed their show was on all the time and I haven't seen or heard from them in a while.

That was one of many polarizing shows on FN. It's either love or hate with a lot of them.

IMO, the competition shows aren't squeezing out the cooking shows. The competition shows are nighttime shows; the cooking shows are daytime.

I can't find any status about the Neelys. Maybe the show is on hiatus until next season.

The shows seem to come and go with almost no notice; maybe they will be back in the fall...I watched it a couple of times but all I could do was say "get a room!"....didn't like the smoochy-huggy-cooing that went on during the show.

the good shows are in the morning or afternoon hours!

i agree; i very rarely watch in the evening hours; seems like they have the same shows over and over

they need a good revamping of their shows and take some of the morning and afternoon and weekend shows on during primetime

I used to love a lot of their old shows -- $40 a Day with Rachel Ray; the show with Jim Conners where he rode the bus and visited different places; Giada's Weekend Getaway, Rachel's vacations, Unwrapped, and so many other ones

Agree totally!! I hadn't even missed them because I always made a point of switching channels when they came on. With the exception of only a couple of shows, I rarely watch FN these days because it seems the network has been consumed with the competition type shows and as a result, the entire FN has become overly saturated with them.

Let the wannabe TV chefs compete to TPTB off camera and then either give them a show or don't but don't embarrass and crush them on camera. I think the judging is extremely arrogant and I've seen few to none of them ever don an apron or work up a sweat in those kitchens to prepare anything, let alone to have their work judged on camera! I've often wondered what their credentials are that makes them an authority to judge aspiring chefs? They all are snobs of the first order IMO and go out of their way to be overly critical and hand out put downs for the efforts put forth just because they can. The arrogance emitted from most of the judges is palpable. JMO.

Needless to say, I'm not a FN fan.

Found this on Food Network site. The Neelys air at 7am eastern time on Sundays:

In New Orleans you could almost see other dimensions. There's only one day at a time here, then it's tonight and then tomorrow will be today again. Chronic melancholia hanging from the trees. You never get tired of it. Bob Dylan

Haven't watched Food Network since they canned "Emeril, Live".

I totally agree with you. Do you remember "How to Boil Water"? I always liked that show because they made cooking so simple. How about when Gordon Elliot would go to a door and knock, and go inside and cook with whatever ingredients the people had in their fridge?I know he didn't do the cooking....I forget who did......and what about Sarah Molton? I loved her shows.

I do not like the FN anymore. I can't tell you how much I dislike the competition shows. I must be in the minority, because they show more and more contests...so someone is watching them. Why call it the FN then? Why don't they call it the Gameshow Network?

The other thing is rather than feature a varied selection of cooks and chefs, they focus on 3 or 4 chefs. It is all Ann Burrell, Giada, Bobby Flay and Guy. I like all of them, but 24 hours a day? I switched to the Cooking Channel, but now they are are throwing all the FN reruns over there like Chopped, Iron Chef, etc. I ran from FN to escape those shows.

That's where all FN shows go to die.

They moved The Hearty Boys there just before they got the axe.

I haven't seen the Neeley's for a while either but didn't watch them much anyway. I do miss some of the older shows featuring Emeril and Sarah Moulton. I felt like I learned something. I am so tired of cake and cupcake shows....in real life, does anyone bake like this? I don't. I like the Sandwhich King for his ideas. It will be interesting to see what Justin comes up with.

Oh, and in our area, we don't get the Cooking Channel. Mediacom does not listen to our requests either.

I think I saw them Saturday morning... but when they get new Foodnetwork Stars someone has to go.....I would suppose..

You know, I can't remember the last time I watched anything on Food Network. And I used to love that channel. I loved watching Ina Garten, but even her shows aren't as good as they used to be. I adored Alton Brown (still do), largely because I like to learn something and he always made sure that I did. And I even liked Emeril. The newer cooks just don't have that knack to teach, IMO. I don't enjoy watching them.

FN is all contests now. I don't know what happened to all the honest cooking shows. I'm not home during the day and at night, it's all contests and cake shows.

Personally, I disliked the Neelys. I always felt like they needed to get a room...not cook.

I love FN but hate some of the competiton shows-Cupcake Wars, Cake Challenges. Also Restaurant Impossible and the 12 hour never ending DDD!

I also like Ina but wish they would tape some new shows! I do wish they would focus on just plain and simple cooking.

Gordon Elliot produces Paula, among others.

Looking forward to a new Food Truck Race!

Perhaps my info is incorrect, but didn't Emeril LEAVE food network to create another cooking channel? I didn't know FN canned him.

I used to LOVE Emeril, Live. It was like a variety show - with a band and everything. Even DH would watch it with me, it was entertaining AND informative.

I notice some of you are talking about another cooking channel - is he on that channel now? Not that I get that channel, but, I'm curious.

Food Network has changed for the worse, IMO. Can't stand the competition shows and other nonsense on that network.

Loved FN of the past but its so much of Diners Driveins and Dives and Chopped these days. Rarely when I turn on is there anything else showing. I love Chopped but not all the time. I am retired and in late afternoon you'll see more of Barefoot Contessa or Giada but thats when most are working or out and about.

FYI -

Emeril is on Hallmark Channel. His show is called "Emeril's Table". It comes on M-F 12pm EST. I don't know if he is on another channel.

Just flipping stations this morning around 10 am and saw the Neeley's rerun listed. Pretty sure it was FN. Also, Sara Moulton has a show that isn't reruns (Weekend meals or something) on either Create or Cooking Channel. Slim pickins' of good shows on FN anymore.

I did see that "the Neely's" are on at 10AM in the Pittsburgh area. They are all repeats. I really don't care for the show, so I don't watch, but I did wonder if they "retired". I agree with everyone that FN has definitely gone down hill. It isn't a "cooking" network anymore.

I haven't seen them in along time. Maybe they are on at a late hour or something. I like them, and their food always looked so good.

I try to write it well, but mostly fail.

The Neely's are annoying to me. They remind me of one of those couples who act so touchy feely all the time, as though they can't wait to get home. Then after a few months they are getting divorced, lol!

I miss the shows that actually teach you great techniques and recipes. Hate all the nasty competitions, cake decorating and gross shows with giant servings of meat etc.

Hopefully FN will see the light soon and bring back some good shows.
