Wandered into a BE boutique yesterday...Oh the HORROR!!!!

I looked so SCARY!!!

Thought I wanted to go back to a mineral foundation for the Summer months...been using a tinted moisturizer from Neutogena...which I really love...but...I am very oily...and thought the "powder" foundation would serve me better right now...it looked like I had a MASK on....and every little fine line...was magnified by 100%!!!! I went to Sephora...and REMOVED IT ALL!!!

YIKES! Bad MUA or what???

Gonna stick with the TM...find a good oil absorbing powder!!

Any thoughts??

She used loose shades on my eyes...which dropped down...made me look like a raccoon...and then she tried to apply MORE well rested on top to cover it up!! Ugghh!! She aged me from 39...to 60!! LOL!!

Maybe just a bad experience...but I did not like the way it all felt on my skin either...is that because of the bismuth oxide??

My girlfriend and I both experimented with the "minerals"........and it didn't work for either of us.

Sounds like you had a bad MUA.

I use BE foundation products and have been for probably 10 years. If you use the wrong color, you will look like death! Sounds like the MUA did a lousy job.

I had a bad experience at the BE boutique near me. I wanted to try the ready shades, and the MUA tried to do a "smokey" eye. She made me look like a ghoul. I don't know what was worse, looking in the mirror, appalled, or the OTHER MUA who insisted that I looked great! I left, and ran to Sephora for HELLLLP lol!

I have a fever . . . and the only cure . . . is more COWBELL!

It sounds like you had on way way way too much. The secret to using mineral makeup is to use a tiny amount or else it looks exactly as you described. Also - I don't like the shine factor of BE so I use Avon mineral foundation which is more finely milled and does not contain whatever causes that shiny look.

Sounds like your makeup artist may not have been an "artist" afterall. Sadly, there have been lots of changes throughout all of bare escentuals since the sale to Shiseido. I treasure my old BE minerals more than ever now & have had no desire to purchase any makeup at all from their new offerings. {#emotions_dlg.sad}

There are so many happy BE users, but it isn't a fit for me. It made my 50 ish year old face itchy, dry and uncomfortable, too. It also accentuated my lines and pores, even with the tiniest amount on my face.

You may like It Cosmetics Bye Bye Pores Finishing Powder A212347. It feels soothing on, and does seem to blur my lines and pores, and good oil absorbtion. As with BE, you only need the tiniest amount. Hope this helps.

I used BE when I was young. I loved it so much. I quit using it when I started getting wrinkles for the reason you stated. It accents every wrinkle. I switched to Laura Geller's Balance & Brighten. Sometimes it's hard to me to get a good match with LG. I try to buy from eBay from people who post exactly what they are selling as I need to make sure it doesn't have too much yellow.

Many years ago, I went into a be store at the Atlanta airport. The gal there was showing me what this makeup was all about, and she did my face with it. When I went into the ladies room before my flight, I was horrified at how bad I looked! I have never had big pores or lines, but I sure looked like I did. Since then, I've known many people who have worn and loved BE, and they look great. It's just not for me.

I having been messing around with mineral makeup too. (BE and Pur minerals mostly) my finding has been that BE just did not work for me and the Pur minerals did ok but right now with the summer heat I am liking Sue Devitt mineral powder and the fortifying primer(along with suncreen) underneath is working out really well. The SD powder is very finely milled and soft and comes in a small compact. They sell this brand at some Macy stores and you can find it online at several places.

Sounds like a Bad color match. The Matte foundation doesn't give that "highlight every wrinkle look". I depend on it in summer

Me neither. I am 64 and tried it a couple years ago. My fine lines were always magnified, my skin felt dry, and I just felt like my face was dirty. I hate foundation anyway. Never wore it until a couple years ago. I like Perricone, no foundation foundation, and BB hydrating liquid foundation. It works for me. Yes, I might need more coverage, because I had freckles, and now have slightly uneven skin tone. But I do not like that foundation look. Just me. Especially in the summer when I am outdoors. I don't like the way womens foundation looks on others in the light.

People either swear by minerals, or find it not for them. There isn't too much middle ground. My daughter wears BE and it looks great on her. She has skin of iron, and is 40. She looks great in it.

My experience in the BE boutiques is that these are sales people with training on the product. They are not MUA. To me they are run of the mill retail sales people. That's it.

Leslie Blodgett I'm sure would make you look beautful.

I tried BE makeup when one of the BE stores near me first opened. It was not good on me either! It aged me at least 10 years, accentuated wrinkles and pores I never even knew I had! I couldn't believe how horrible I looked.

I cant wear BE either. It makes my pores look like craters

It sounds like a combination of a bad color match and too much product. I also do not recommend using too much of those loose minerals around the eyes because they will settle in fine lines and enhance them (and not in a good way) no matter how carefully you apply them. I used BE for over a decade but now that I'm 42 and my skin is getting older, I've switched to a lighthanded application of liquid foundation (Mally's new one) and a primer because the BE Fair which I adored for years was no longer looking quite so hot when I dared a glance in full sunlight. It looked like I was too "made up", the area around and under my eyes looked really dry and the fine lines were screaming "HERE I AM!". Now that I've made the switch my skin looks much better and the fine lines aren't nearly as apparent. I thought I was looking so old but I was just using the wrong product for my no longer 30something skin.

ETA I did buff and buff some more but the fine lines still stood up and said "Hey". It's too much work for me at this point in my life so I'm giving it a break and sticking with the liquid/concealer combo. It's quick and easy and I don't have to worry about hiding in the shadows.

It's all in the application!

If you don't really buff the minerals in, you will end up with a horrible mask that intensifies large pores and lines. When Leslie does a demo, she doesn't actually use a buffing action, more of a light stroke; the light stroke doesn't work - it must be buffed. The finished product is a complete night and day result when buffed vs. a light stroke. Sounds like the "artists" who did OP's face used Leslie's technique.

Do you use Neutrogena Healthy Skin Enchancer? I use it on my combo-dry skin but don't need a finishing powder with it. In the summer I like at least as possible as far as foundation. Ksalnato, what you might want to try which I find to be amazing for a foundation that is light like a tinted moisturizer & does not settle into fine lines & after it sets their is no need for finishing powder...It's Great, I use it more than the high ends I have...{Maybelline instant age rewind eraser foundation, the one with the dome puff top} Their concealer is great too...A beautiful natural finish!

As far as BE, I use that also but I find if I use more than one application, it does settle more into fine lines....But I have the right shade, & the key is Buff Buff & more buffing Ha! That with a light application of Mineral Veil works well...I have tried other minerals but keep going back to BE because the final finish is beautiful. I don't use a their Bisque or well rested, it does settle...

Give The Maybelline light foundation & their concealer a try. Or try out some other tinted moisturizers at Ulta or Sephora more targeted for oily skin...Good Luck!

I am not a mineral fan at all...my sister wore it for years also touting the use of just a small amount, her skin was always red and very blotchy, totally uneven. She has since moved on to a tinted moisturizer and looks a lot better! I have never understood the " just use a few grains" bit, you need more than a few grains to cover your whole face!

Sorry your experience was bad. Sounds like wrong shade and too much applied. I would go back and try with another person, maybe the one you had just wasn't that great.

I'm a BE user and have not had any luck with other brands. I'm mostly into eye makeup but use the full line. I have dry, aging skin and have no problems with the BE foundation. I don't really buff, I apply lightly.

At the boutique, I generally have the same SA apply new colors on me. She's great and knows what colors work for me. Some of the SAs aren't as good or don't get that all colors don't work for everyone.

MMU is DEATH on my face. I tried it initially in my mid 30's and it made me look 50. Not a good look. Now I am 47 and I would not touch that stuff. It finds flaws I never knew I had and magnifies everything. Really really bad product for me and I've tried diff brands....all bad.

Sorry you had a poor "makeunder". Sounds like an SA who needs more training used too much product and the wrong shade. I've had several great makeunders but a couple that were not as good and there sure is a big difference ! I use thee Matte foundation and it leaves my skin looking so good, but I dont appear to be wearing makeup at all- freckles, pores and fine lines disappear and I have a soft matte finish that lasts all day.

You should not be able to feel the makeup at all, so it definitely sounds like they applied way too much ! Matte version has no Bismuth either, so there's no shine, just a soft natural look.

I'd definitely try it again-at a different Boutique or store, or just get samples of a couple of shades (at BE or Sephora) and apply it yourself to see how it works when applied correctly. It's my everyday makeup, but I especially love it in the hot summer weather when any other foundation would melt right off of me.

48, very fair, blonde, green eyes, cool "summer" coloring. Combination/sensitive skin. Vegetarian

LOL! I saw this topic and burst out laughing because it echoes my past flirtations with mineral makeup. {#emotions_dlg.biggrin}

The only time I managed to stick with MMU for any length of time was after BE Matte came on the market. Even then, my skin was like the Sahara after a few weeks of use. The bismuth accentuates every single flaw, but even without the bismuth, the mineral powder absorbs too much oil out of your skin, leaving it looking flat and lifeless.

There are so many good formulas of all kinds these days, from awesome tinted moisturizers to beauty balms to multi-tasking foundations to awesome drugstore formulations, that I rarely get the urge to flirt with MMU anymore. Good luck. I love the Maybelline FIT foundation and powder, wore it in 90+ degree weather this weekend and had no problems with it.
