MKR NY310 PostsJoined 4/28/2007 I finally saved up enough to buy my new HP desktop and 15.6" laptop. I received the desktop that I customized to my needs and it needed to be returned. The TV tuner I paid extra for didn't work after spending 3 1/2 hours with their tech support. The audio was terrible unless you had the Beats Audio on.It was very tinny sounding. I didn't replace it when I sent it back. I received my new laptop with the i7 new 3rd gen Intel processor a few days later. That also had a problem that needed to be replaced. I decided not to replace it as I already had bad luck with these 2 new items. I will say to return these (total of almost $2800.00) items was an easy process and that part was a good experience. The CS part for trying to repair my new desktop was not a good experience. I couldn't understand them and even with extra help from them I couldn't. The credit for my desktop was back on my charge card in 4 days. The laptop went back yesterday. The credit back was fast. I just ordered a new 15.6" Toshiba Satelitte laptop. I own a Toshiba Qosmio laptop and it is great. No problem in two years owning it. I guess I will stay with Toshiba. Any recent opinions on your experience with HP. I was disappointed as I really researched and ordered exactly what I wanted. I didn't want a brand new item sent in for repairs so therefore went back to Toshiba.

The thought of having to return a brand new computer is daunting. You get in there, add your personal stuff, install your softwares, etc, then have to purge it all (which doesn't totally purge your personal information, if somebody knows how to retrieve it), to return it. I guess it can happen to any brand, but so far so good with other brands. Glad the credits were handled well, though! That IS an important part of customer service. "Everything isn't black or white. The grey areas are where reality lies." My son has a degree in computer science and he doesnt think much of HP laptops. He says they overheat too much. For desktops, imo, you can't beat Gateway. They have really stepped up their game and you get sooooooo much more of the new upgrades for the money then elsewhere. A pc survey of a warranty company says Asus is returned less then any other brand. HP was wayy down the list. santorini1339529094.546046 PostsRegistered 1/26/2007 My Dell desktop was on the blink after 4 years. I'm not one that works well on a laptop, so I went out in search of another desktop. (I didn't have the patience to order online). Sam's had a choice of ONE desktop! LOL! I went to Costco and they had a few, so I got the all-in-one touchscreen HP. I LOVE it! I've had it about 2 months and haven't had any issues yet. nutmeg31339537033.913067 PostsRegistered 6/18/2007NJ Most of the desktops are made on the same foot print, med sized. The difference is the quality of the parts. I brought an Dell 8300 six months ago. It is the same product as the HP Pavilion HPE h8 xt series desktops. Today Dell has a 3nd gen processors in their 8500 desktop, and the HP series just can be brought as a custom built with the new processor and motherboard. I happen to like this computer HP Pavilion HPE h8-1241 Desktop PC for $999.00. I would call customer service an ask about the HD. I have never seen a 5400 rpm drive in a regular sized desktop. This computer even has a TV tuner. I am not a big fan of Gateway or ASUS systems. They may have great prices, but not alot of customer support on their web sites. If you have a small question, you will have to pay. They do not answer simple non-hardware questions. Dell HP, Lenovo, and Toshiba have customer to customer support. glb6131339539471.8938749 PostsRegistered 10/6/2004 On 6/12/2012 nutmeg3 said: Most of the desktops are made on the same foot print, med sized. You must know something no one else does. All computer companies lave limited custormer support even Apple. If Apple didn't, you wouldn't need to buy Apple Care. Computer manufacturers provide hardware support for the first year. Some will have factory installed software support for a limited time, usually for 30 days. I own 2 HP computers and both are fine. I haven't needed any support for either machine. In fact, I've only had one computer fail since I started buying computers in 1995. It was a Dell desktop, I got a refurbished model to replace it (which at first I was angry) and it turned out to be a great computer. A lot of people will claim a computer has "crashed" and buy new when it's something easily fixed. Malware is another problem that can make a computer unusable. My first was an HP and it lasted 4+ years then I replaced the tower on that one with an Emachine and bought the kids their own Emachine that same year. Those Emachines lasted 4 & 5 years and then mine went (I use them till they completely fail) so I replaced mine with another HP last year and I HATE IT! We bought the kids a new Emachine for Christmas and I really wish I had one like theirs. Besides I thought I heard earlier this year that HP was getting out of hardware and going the route of IBM??? Marsha20031339540301.3173055 PostsRegistered 10/31/2007 When I bought my new HP desk top two years ago, I paid extra for the in-home repair policy. I found that if I called for help outside of normal business hours, I was shunted off to an off-shore help facility that was a nightmare. However, if I called during business hours, I reached a USA rep. My tower was shipped with a defective hard drive, but HP replaced it with an even bigger hard drive. While the original set-up and figuring out that the hard drive was defective was a hassle, I haven't had a moment's trouble since. My HP laptop is several years old and has always worked perfectly. viva9231339542585.8335114 PostsRegistered 4/5/2008Delaware Just purchased a new HP tower. I believe it is a Pavilion. Love it. it was awful to set up took several days, now that I have the hang of it, it is an OK computer. My old computer was a Compact. I worked it till it just would not work any longer. I hope my HP works as long. My HP is a 6GB, 1 terabyte computer, what ever that means. All I want is a fast computer that works. I got that once again. MKR NY1339547068.47310 PostsRegistered 4/28/2007 The HP desktop I had purchased was the Omni 220 Quad All-in-One. It was very nice and was thinking it would be fine but I should check all the features out to be sure it was working right. It was not. I just bought a used HP laptop a few months ago from Ebay. It was very nice so I decided to buy a new one and upgrade-to my granddaughter's delight. She now has it and loves it. I bought a new HP laptop on Ebay for my grandson and he loves his. Maybe I should have bought one on Ebay and not customized my orders from HP. I also bought a HP Envy 114e printer and I love it. You can print from an iPad with one touch. Just download the app for HP home and it works. I did a test print HP had and it was amazing. Colors were vibrant and clear. HP did a good job on this printer and I have always had Lexmark printers. nutmeg31339552291.673067 PostsRegistered 6/18/2007NJ On 6/12/2012 glb613 said: On 6/12/2012 nutmeg3 said: Most of the desktops are made on the same foot print, med sized. This support can be found online at most major computer vendors except ASUS or Gateway-Acer. It can help you solve a small problem. I have a 16" HP G60-235D that I bought from Best Buy a few years ago and love it, have not had any problems with it. My SO has a Toshiba that he bought at Circuit City (that tells you how old it is) and has never had a problem with it either. Of the several folks I know that have owned them, each has experienced significant problems. One IT person who's a friend was gifted an HP laptop and essentially trashed it after a year because of ongoing issues that he assessed it wasn't worth it to keep 'fixing'. I'm sure there are many who swear by this brand, and every brand has 'lemons', but when in the market for a new machine, this simply isn't a brand that will be on my list to consider. MKR NY1340535764.263310 PostsRegistered 4/28/2007 I received my new Toshiba Platinum Satellite P755D-S5384 15.6" laptop yesterday and there is no comparison between this and the customized HP I just returned. The Toshiba is much more sturdy and the keys are wonderful to type on and so quiet. I hardly hear this Toshiba run and after 3 hours was barely warm to the touch. This model has a blu-ray player and a beautiful back lit keyboard. It is a new Fusion X2 design that is a dark grey and very classy. Nice webcam. Just set-up my wireless printer in just a few minutes. The screen is amazing and so is the sound. Fast and easy to set-up. The wireless sets itself up and all you do is put in your password. This has the newest AMD A8 Vision processor and is Quad core. I ordered this at Wal-Mart ship-to-store and there was no shipping charge. Before it shipped the price dropped by $34.00 and they took that off the price after I emailed them of this. Couldn't be happier with this laptop. It has one of the new 3.0 USB along with 3 2.0 USB ports,HDMI and ethernet port.. Anyone looking for a solid and dependable laptop check this out. The final cost was $675.00 plus shipping. It is worth every dollar. I posted a review on Wal-Mart yesterday regarding this. I should have gotten another Toshiba at the beginning. My 18.4" Qosmio Toshiba laptop I have had for over two years is and runs just like the day I first got it. I know kids will be going off to college and they need a sturdy and dependable laptop so I wanted to add my input for all that are confused with so many laptops out there to choose from.
