Does Anyone Ever Wear Patterned Clothing When Carrying a VB Bag?

Started 1339108695.063 in Vera Bradley | Last reply 1339613353.32 by Divine

I recently received my VB order and I'm so pleased with these handbags! However, once I decided to carry one it occurred to me that I need to wear solid color clothes with these. Am I wrong in thinking this? Do any of you ladies ever wear patterned clothes when carrying your VB bags?

I had the same thought/concern when I first started carrying these bags. Most of my tops are solid colors but not all. I just go ahead and carry whatever bag I want.

I don't like patterned clothing with them. It seems to take away from the VB pattern and look too busy. I just started wearing them with stripes (similar color to whatever the VB pattern is) after seeing it like that on the website. I now like it with stripes, but not patterns. Although you should do whatever you like and whatever makes you happy.

Thanks, I don't think I would feel comfortable wearing a prominent pattern with these bags. I don't have that many, anyhow. Maybe a subtle stripe would be alright. I'll just have to play it by ear and see what works for me.

I'm so excited to have these handbags that I'm picking clothes that go with the bags instead of the other way around. I love them!

I just inventoried my closets and I've decided that what I need to do is buy more clothes to go with my Vera Bradley bags! I am so happy I decided to get these bags. {#emotions_dlg.laugh}

Why Divine, that's a great idea! About 98% of what I wear is casual, and if I'm dressing up, I usually carry a small dressy bag. I carry VB all the rest of the time.

The majority of my tops are solid colors but I have worn some pattern with them. I try to stick with the solids because I agree with MsTrixi that it can look too busy. My Mom is too funny, she doesn't care one whit. She wears them with pattern tops.

I only wear solid colors when I'm carrying a VB. That's my preference.

I am a pattern clothes person so I never use my VB as handbags. I think it would be very difficult to really put a print outfit together with most of their bags. If you notice on their shows I am pretty sure the rep wears solid clothes when presenting the bags.

I mostly buy the totes and have a big weekender bag and I use them on vacations as luggage. In that case I don't care what color I am wearing!

sometimes i wear a top with a pattern on it but the bottoms are solid color

i always always carry a pattern bag and a brighter one in the summer and dark shades in the winter -- i live on the east coast

i have Vera Bradley bags, Donna Sharp bags which I love and others that I have found in my Hallmark Card Store

Vera's patterns are brighter and Donna's a bit softer.

Right now I have Donna Sharp's Provence pattern -- red with denim patches on it.

I cannot be changing my bag everyday

This is why I don't care for VB bags. I like some of the patterns and I like some of the shapes and I like how light weight the VB bags are. But I am not a handbag changer. I put my stuff in a bag and carry it for a season.

I recently bought a VB bag, carried it for 2 days and it didn't match anything I had on. Now it's in my closet. I think I'm going to get rid of it.

I must live in a very "do whatever you want" type locale when it comes to such things -- very few strict fashion rules. I love it that way. And yes, I will wear a VB bag with a print or patterned top. I do try, though, to make sure that they are somewhat complementary in terms of color and design.

I usually wear solid colors, or clothes with minimal design so Vera works well for me. If the bag doesn't "work" well with what I'm wearing, I can quickly swap bags out since most of my "stuff" is in some kind of cosmetic bag or in my wallet.

Someone asked this question a few months ago. I think it is possible, but it takes some thought. Some Veras look good with prints, but the prints need to be simple and the colors should match the colors in your bag. I can see Lime's Up and Priscilla Pink with a black and white polka dot skirt or top. Summer Cottage would look good with blue and white striped top and a white bottom. My 10 yo DD says that Veras do not need to match your clothing. From what I see in public, many people agree with her. I, however, will continue to coordinate my Veras with what I am wearing.{#emotions_dlg.thumbup}

I buy VB for travel so my bags are the larger ones with more storage. I wear or carry them with all colors and all patterns at the same time. If someone does not like it, don't look at me. I really don't care.

Peg, I just ordered a Donna Sharp Leah Tote and it does appear to have a softer tonality. I've never seen one of her bags in person so I'm excited to compare her bags with Vera's. I'm sure I'll enjoy them all.

I agree with you about not wanting to change my bag everyday, so that's my I've been selecting my clothes to go with the Lime's Up bag I'm now carrying. I'll probably change it out on Sunday. The only problem I'm having is finding the clothes that I think go well with this particular bag. A white or black top is my safe choice...but sometimes boring. Saturday I plan to wear a turquoise top and I think that will go well with the Lime's Up pattern.

Dosey, I think you are correct about selecting colors/prints that coordinate well together. I think it's the same thing as with home decorating. I have both stripes and patterns in my upholstery. I think the same "rules" probably would apply to how I can mix and match patterns/prints for my clothes and handbags.

Well, wasn't that a brilliant idea on my part!{#emotions_dlg.biggrin} I'm with you in that I nearly always wear casual clothes.

Thanks everyone for your thoughts on this issue. I'm going to wear whatever feels "right" and I'll probably usually wear solid clothes with my VB bags...that's just me. But I'm not totally ruling out wearing soft stripes and coordinating colored clothing with these bags. I'll just decide outfit by outfit.

I never even think about it. Right now, I'm carrying the Stephanie in Rosie Posey. I use it every day. The only time I may not use it is if I'm going out to dinner or something, and I'm wearing mostly black; then I'll use one of my black bags. Check out the VB web site; you'll see the models wearing stipes and carrying the bags in the various patterns.

Yes, I do. I am not one of those who has to have my handbag match anything. It isn't like you have it all the time. I LOVE my VB bag.

I think if you were to wear a small/subtle print on top and then have a solid jacket or sweater then you could carry a bag with a print. As long as niether print "shouts". I have some shirts with prints that are very subtle and more tone on tone so that would be fine.

You understood me perfectly, Divine. I wish I had thought of the decorating analogy when I was typing my response. It is the same principle.

I wear solid color tops 90% of the time so I haven't had any issues using her bags. I "watch" it more closely in the winter for clashing..in the summer I don't care!

I am a very recent convert to Vera bags, but boy have I made up for lost time! I think I have become obsessed because I seem to always be on the Vera website. I have several different bags, but am in love, love, love with "Summer Cottage". I have the bag with the chain which "fits" me perfectly, and also have the same print in the "Hipster". I can't stop looking at this print...love the colors and all the different flowers...it makes me happy. Funny thing to say about a handbag!

I live here in Southern California and don't really see too many Vera bags. Someone told me it is an "Eastern" thing and Midwest. But I don't care if it's not an LA thing, I will carry what I like. I have a problem walking and am happy to have found a line of bags that don't weigh pounds before anything goes in it. I received a coupon today and am going crazy trying to figure out which bags or accessories to get.

Anyway, everyone, enjoy your bags!

Hi Queen of Posts,

First, I wanted to tell you I laughed when I read your sig line. I watched the show where Alexis thought Costa Rico was in Mexico! She's kind of a ditz but I still like her!!! Smile

Second, I said "eeeeeks" out loud when you said "I think I'm going to get rid of it." !!!! (I have so many Vera bags, I can't imagine getting rid of any of them!!) You could take it to a consignment shop. You would probably get a decent price for it ... or maybe you know of someone who would like it and give it to them as a gift. (May I ask the pattern and style??) Thanks!
