Returning Nextbook 8, battery does not stay charged

Started 1333297165.677 in Electronics Talk | Last reply 1334080669 by IBuyQVC
I really wanted to like and keep it. The colors were sharp, bright, it seemed like it easily meet my needs. I charged per the instructions, it was turned off, inside the protective cover in my tote bags compartment for a laptop. About 24 hours later I took it out to show my son in law. It had just enough power to turn on, show the low battery message, then it immediately turned off. This is not acceptable to me, so back it goes.

One thing I have noticed is that every time hsn has one of these 'Nextbook' items on there are a LOT of complaints. I'm not a tablet person, but if I were this would be the LAST one I would choose.

Sorry you've had problems with it. Better to put that money toward a better quality product.

My first tablet attempt. I did learn a tablet this size, with these features could meet the portability need I have. So from my perspective it's not a complete waste of my time nor my money. I don't live close to a Best Buy, Sam's, Staples etc where I can go "play" with one. Minimum one hour drive to the closest store. Live, try, and learn.

Yup, good point about live and learn. Bummer that you don't have the big box stores near by. My father is from your state. I've visited there and found it to be lovely and the people were universally very nice.

Thank you for the compliment to my state and the people who live here! After living in major cities it's hard sometimes to now live so far away from the city, but my career has me where I am now. I would love love to be close to Little Rock, Hot Springs, or Conway.

Well I have had mine for almost a week and haven't had any problems with the battery. I am using it a lot to make sure that this is the tablet I want to keep. So far I haven't had any problems with anything except I wish the sound was louder. I want to give it a good work oput before the 30 days are up and couldn't return it. Sorry you had a problem with it.

Glad yours is working for you! My plan for the first 30 days was like yours. I really hope yours and everyone else who ordered have great success! I called HSN and explained the problem, told me to return it using the return label, I will not be charged and will receive a full refund. Great customer service.

I am not sure what you did or if it was the Nextbook itself, but I have been playing Angry Birds for more than 4 hours this evening and I still have a battery charge and although not the most battery draining application, it is not the least so I can say that I am getting a bit more than 4 hours on the charge..

I tried several times to charge it. It would indicate a full charge after several hours. However, when I would turn it on in less than five minutes it was dead. Hope this additional info clears up what I did. I don't see what I could have done to cause it, all I did was turn it on. I think I got a dud. HSN was completely out of them, exchange was not an option. Duds can happen with anything. Hopefully, I got the only dud if not based upon HSN response to me they will take care of it.

Sure sounds like a "dud" as you did not do anything that would cause that short of battery life. By the way, it looks like I got 4 hr 38 minutes with Angry Birds before I was down to 3% battery so I do not think that is too bad..

Well mine is working alright but the reviews on the tablet are awful and I think I'm returning mine. It sometimes sticks when I touch the pad and won't move anything. I'm thinking that the 4gb is awfully small also

I got an E-Mail from Tiger Direct yesterday and they had a refurbished Asus Transformer Tablet and I have read awfully good reviews on this and you can get a keyboard docking station for it. it's a 16gb. I also have 30 days to see if it meets up to my expectations but it is more money but I guess you get what you pay for. Smile

Oh, by the way they are not even showing the Nextbook anymore saying it's sold out and you can't even read the reviews that were previously posted. {#emotions_dlg.confused1} Gee wonder why that is. I'm betting that they have had a a lot or returns and complaints. Oh well live and learn.

Hope I like the Asus better and I know I will like having the docking station. It was about double what the Nextbook but is has 16gb and keyboard docking station. Keeping fingers crossed. {#emotions_dlg.rolleyes}

I am sure you will like the Asus but I have to tell you, for the price I am quite pleased with the Nextbook as it is doing everything I expected from it and actually much more. I did not know it was such a nice game platform..

I knew that when the Tablet was sold by the southern channel, that there would be a lot of complaints as too many people are new to them and expect there to be a small learning curve and just the fact that many of the included softwares have to be downloaded and installed with a number code would be problematic.

I believe a lot of the performance is directly related to the quality of the WiFi signal that is being used as I have a good connection and therefore my speed is fine, especially since this tablet is just a 1 ghz single core processor.

What you probably will not find in many of the tablets now is Android 4 and that is something that is good to have.

In any event, I am one of the people that are quite pleased with with this Tablet and so far I really have not noticed very much of a delay in applications, especially considering that there is only .5gb of RAM. People cannot expect it to perform like a computer with a multicore cpu and enhanced graphics and that is part of the problem that needs to be understood.

There are many good apps on the jar site and perhaps people should take advantage of them as they are easier to get than even GooglePlay apps as appjar is tied to the tablets.

Well first of all I think a lot of people are disappointed that they can not get Netflex to watch movies and it was advertised that you could.

I am not new to tablets but it's just not to my liking and the sticking problem is getting worse. My Wi-fi is excellent so no problems with that. If I just wanted it to play games or check E-mail it would be fine but I want it for other things as well.I had no problems with the downloads either.

Hope I like the other one I have coming. If I'm spending this amount of money I want to be 100% happy with the product and have it able to do what I want it to do.

Regarding Netflix, I certainly understand why people would expect from listening to the sales pitch to be able to get it so indeed that is a problem with not the Nextbook, but with the sales department and the company should certainly address this, but to be honest they do it with just about anything they sell so I probably would not expect their hype machine to stop anytime soon.

I still believe that the majority of people that are not pleased with this tablet, simply expect it to be as easy as was demonstrated. One thing however, having 30 days of free voice 24/7 tech support really is unusual and they should be able to help many folk that call in. Apart from the lack of Netflix, the tablet is a fine product for its price and some of the software included with the purchase is quite useful.

I just played angry birds and another couple games and after 7 hr and 11 minutes I still had 2% charge so now it is plugged in and charging again.

Could the sticking problem be due to the machine locking up and needing to power off or does it still persist after that ?

Well the sticking problem continued so I sent it back. I tried powering off but it still happened and I shouldn't have to power off all the time. I received my Asus and it is an awsome tablet. I know it was more money but well worth the cost. If I hadn't bought the keyboard dock it wouldn't have cost that much more.

I think I made a good decision and mine is working great.

Sometimes you get what you pay for, eh? ASUS is a good brand and should serve you well. :)

Well it made a believer out of me. I am loving my Asus and glad I returned the other one. I think the Coby that the Q sold a day after is also getting bad reviews. Sounds like another piece of JUNK that these companies are pushing off on the shopping channels. Makes no sense because they sell big numbers then get them back.

I think that with the dumbed-down-quality electronics that they sell on tv, the profit margin is SOOOO high, due to the shoddy (cheap) manufacturing, that they make a ton of money even considering the people who will go to the bother of returning.

I'm not anti-tv shopping, per se, but for electronics it's just not the way to go. They count on a lot of people not doing their research. I'm not saying that we probably all haven't been there, but I guess it's a 'live and learn' kind of thing. Many years ago you could do a lot better with electronics on QVC but those days are gone and I don't even need to go into the quality problems at hsn.

I didn't see any reviews for the TSV Nextbook and the product no longer exist on HSN website. It really bugs me that HSN doesn't have any reviews. I'm thinking about sending it back probably by Saturday because I don't want to get stuck later with the Nextbook if it's not working on the 31st day. I've seen recently aired products removed from HSN website before. Wonder why that happens?

Thanks to those who posted reviews on QVC message board.

After reading this topic I unplugged the power plug and my NB8 lasted close to 6 hours with 6% charge remaining.
