For all of you who already own Kitchen Aid stand mixers, which one do you think is better, the lift models or the tilt models?

I have had both and liked both..I now have the lift one...because I make so much bread this one works for me best....I gave my tilt one to my daughter and later got her the same larger lift model that I have...we have put the tilt one away for granddaughters...Tess

I to have owned both and love both.............I just find the bowl lift makes the bowl more user friendly for me......{#emotions_dlg.laugh} I used to have problems getting the bowl to fit and come off on the tilt models....I know some have to make sure of their cabinet clearance for the tilt model as well.........I now own the professional model, and just do not want to be without it..........Either way, I feel you can not go wrong........Cool

I have only had one, the big pro. It is a bowl-lift model. I love it BUT it weighs a ton and sometimes it's really hard to move. If you get one find a place for it that you won't have to move it from. Whichever model you get, you will LOVE your KitchenAid!

I prefer the tilt.

I had ordered the bowl lift about 2 years ago, and then realized that it would not fit under my kitchen cabinets so I sent it back and ordered the tilt head. I keep it on my counter and use it all the time. I waited a long time before I ordered it because of the price. I kept talking myself out of it. If something happened to the one I have, I would replace it in a heartbeat. I really love it. Just keep in mind that they are all heavy so it it will stay on your counter check the size to be sure it fits under cabinets before ordering it.

I have and use both. A 5 qt tilt amd a pro 600. If you are looking at a 5 qt,I'd go with the bowl lift as it will most likely more watts, especially if you are planning to use it for bread. Other wise the tilt head may be adequate. I like my smaller artisan for cupcakes and beating egg whites, where as the pro 600 is more appropriate for dough. I love both!

I am using my granddaddy's KA-5 model lift mixer and today's TSV is the only one I have seen yet that is almost exactly like his! Mind you, I am in my '40s so this mixer is no spring chicken... I have calculated that it is at least 30 years old as I remember my granddaddy making bread with it when I was about 10.

I never thought I would be tempted to get a replacement but the bowl shape and added wattage (300 vs. 450) are tempting. I am thinking I should get a replacement before I burn out the heirloom. {#emotions_dlg.rolleyes}

I have both. Love the smaller one for mixing up cake batters and whipping egg whites; the large one for making bread and sturdy cookie doughs. If you plan to store it inside a cabinet on one of those lift shelves, the larger one won't fit properly, so go with the smaller one. I keep my smaller one in one of those in my island; the larger one sits on the counter in my pantry.

I have both, too. I use the smaller one (tilt head) for a quick batch of cookies or making a cake. The large Pro (bowl lift) is perfect when making breads and when doing a double or triple batch of cookie dough; the higher wattage really helps when kneading heavier bread dough. I keep them both out on the kitchen counter. Baby Blue, the tilt head, is at one end of the counter and Big Red, with the bowl lift, is right next to the sink.

Love the pro version. Gave two as gifts. I gave everyone in the family (we all have KA stand mixers) a set of 3/4" felt pads which stick to the mixer pads on the bottom and I can slide my mixer out of the corner very easily. Wouldn't it be nice if Kitchen Aid included those inexpensive stick on felt pads?

I have tilt heads and I love them. They're so easy to clean. I debated picking up a lift but decided what I had was just fine for what I use it for. I guess you can't go wrong with either.

If you bake frequently and make heavy breads you're probably better with the larger machine. I tend to use mine more through the holiday seasons and not so much other times of the year so for me, the smaler tilt is just great.

For any of you ladies that are interested, you can buy the new scrapper blade at Bed Bath and Beyond. They have the blades for both the 5 and 6 qt machines. I used a 20% coupon and love the blade. It really makes a difference. I bought a blade for my daughter and she loves it also. I paid $29 for the 5 qt blade and $39 for the 6 qt blade.

Used to have the tilt, hated it, now have 2 bowl lifts, love, love, love! It's personal preference & I just didn't like the tilt, had to have it sideways on the counter or it would hit the cabinets when I removed the bowl. Also, more power with the 6qt, I make a lot of bread & need the extra power.

Whatever model you get, plan to leave it out on your counter or you will never use it. They are sturdy and heavy. I have the plain classic and I love it.

Mine has the bowl-lift, and I absolutely love it! For some reason, owning a KA stand mixer with a bowl-lift seemed like the ultimate to me. I got it form the Q about 8 years ago, when it was a TSV. I'm not sure how I ever lived without;) However, I'm sure the tilt-back models are wonderful too. I guess it all depends on your preference. Have you gone to a retailer that sells both kinds? Perhaps that would help you decide which you prefer.

Circle2 - thanks for the information about the scraper blade. I have been watching that today and wishing I had one!

I just bought this mixer, it is my first stand mixer. I just wanted to know if those's of you who leave it on the counter, do you use the mixer cover? Will the mixer cover cover the mixer with bowl attached?

I ordered the cover because I have cats and don't want to clean the bowl before each use because of the dust and hair that always finds it's way on top of furniture and countertops.

I've had both and prefer the bowl life. TSV looks like a really nice one! I have the 6 qt and the new dough hook is great. MUCH better as the dough doesn't climb up it. I don't have a cover for mine.
