benzgirl4813 PostsJoined 12/23/2006Tennessee by way of the great state of NY I really thought it was nice but am starting to have concerns about it being made in China. Think there is lead in the paint? I hope someone will give me their thoughts and opinions as early as possible this morning. It will help me make a decision to keep or cancel my order. Waiting??? benzgirl1321107134.5874813 PostsRegistered 12/23/2006Tennessee by way of the great state of NY gkelly ~ Late last night I started thinking about that and wondered if it would be safe to put food on plates that may contain lead. Sadly, I am really debating if I should cancel my order. "Let my heart be broken with the things that break the heart of God". ~ Bob Pierce ~ Founder of World Vision.

When a U.S. Company does specifications for the dishes (product), does this guarantee that there won't be anything like lead in there? Is it only stuff designed in China that is dangerous? I ended up ordering one set of Little Hoot to mix with my Fiesta Ware, but I think they should have addressed this in the presentations instead of obsessing about how much Fiesta costs. I think we can figure out price points by ourselves, I want more facts about the products. It seems like we don't get that many facts or measurements anymore. (in general for many products including jewelry). Since they didn't say anything about not being able to ship to California (which is completely over-the-top with regulations), then maybe they are okay. benzgirl1321111025.1234813 PostsRegistered 12/23/2006Tennessee by way of the great state of NY On 11/12/2011 misschristy said: I've wondered about this, too. They (I) love the color choices, mixing it up, the quality - being made in USA is an added bonus. As to the original poster, remember the old adage - "when in doubt, don't". chickenbutt1321116172.55720443 PostsRegistered 1/16/2006Crazytown Hi Benzgirl. Personally, I wouldn't buy it for that reason but I think that if you aren't putting the pieces in the oven or microwave it's much less of a concern. All I have from her line are some small ramekin-type pieces that I only like because they are the perfect shade of red. But I would never put them in the microwave or oven either. Her stuff seems to be better quality than other Chinese-made ceramic lines that QVC sells, though, but I'll still stick with my Fiestaware. :) VERY well made and they don't crack and craze like the Chinese-made items inevitably will. You'll know what is best for you. If you are concerned about the lead thing, or the workmanship in general, you should probably follow your brain on that. "Everything isn't black or white. I think I have to go with my gut instict on this one and sadly will cancel this order...especially since this subject (lead paint/quality control) was not brought up yesterday. I have two sets of Pfaltzgraff, one set is original Yorktown in blue and belonged to my mom and the other is a pattern that I collected several years ago. (I can't think of the name of it right now). But both sets are made in the USA, in fact....I think the Pfaltzgraff company is/was located in Pennsylvania. Anyway, my mom's set is my 'every day' set and I wouldn't get rid of it for any price. I have recently been thinking, though, of ditching a few pieces that have chips in them. Gosh. They must be at least 40 years old and I use them every single day! You might want to check out replacements.com to get pieces to replace the chipped ones. It's a pretty good source. "Everything isn't black or white. But she had service for 16 and the kids are out of the house and only DH and I are here now. So, if I discard a few pieces I don't think it will 'hurt' too much. Pray for Israel Minnya1321124639.04781 PostsRegistered 2/15/2007 I happen to love my Fiestaware for reasons others have mentioned. RR's dishes were very nice though. I don't want to "dis" anybody, but does anybody else think Rachel has changed? She now reminds me of Joy Mangano- just trying to sell her stuff. I hope she still loves cooking and has the same passion about food and people that she used to. I had never watched or really even seen her before QVC -- I don't watch the food channels. But I have to say that I find her to be a bit overbearing in her presentations -- borderline Susan Graver-ish. For some reason it annoyed me that she kept mentioning pricing and EZpays and reduced shipping. As for the lead issue, I didn't see any mention of it on the item page or on her website. She would be wise to add that information, as do Tara for her Temptations and Gloria for Polish stoneware. I had ordered the two serving pieces and it's too late to change them. I do think the main problems with lead are with paint used on dishes and then the sealant isn't done properly and the lead can leak. I'm not totally educated about this and plan to do some googling. I called Customer Service and all they could do was forward my question to QVC Corporate. She did say QVC has two quality control offices in China - but it depends on what they are testing for and she couldn't answer that. If I get any more information, I'll page you. I know you are canceling, but it will help all of us to know about lead in dishes and what kind of testing is done for dishes imported to the U.S. misschristy1321128570.1171366 PostsRegistered 10/13/2007 January1211321129271.947353 PostsRegistered 12/13/2006NY On 11/12/2011 misschristy said: http://www.wthr.com/story/12465018/13-investigates-lead-in-your-dishes Thanks misschristy for the link ... everybody should take a look at it ... I did not think elegant....(just my opinion, lets not fly off with this comment) Royal Doulton that is elegant. I do not think they would let some lead based product get by them. Some featured bright colors and bold patters while others were plain white. Some of the plates came from China, England and Germany and others were produced in Italy, Japan and the United States. Some of the dishes were brand new and some are antiques." Also, the article stressed that it's not so much the amount of lead as it how much is leached out: "But most of the plates sent to a lab for leach testing by Eyewitness News – including all of the plates recently purchased from local retailers – leached only tiny amounts of lead, well below the FDA standard. The cadmium detected by WTHR was within FDA limits too. "It's fairly rare that we find anything high [during the leaching test] anymore," said D ick Goldblatt, director of Chicago Spectro Service Laboratory, which tests ceramic tableware for dish manufacturers, retailers and importers. "I think they recognized the problem years ago, and over the years it's gotten better." ETA: Poor Mr. Goldblatt's first name was not allowed by the censor software here.
