I am needing a new camera and was wondering if anyone had any information about the upcoming Canon PowerShot SX500 IS TSV? I would like to know the price, configuration, and easy pay offer. There is a nice offer at Amazon, but I am hoping QVC can beat it. TIA

The preview email I got says is offering the SX500 for $234.95 w/5 installments of $46.99. Here are the specs from the QVC page. What makes the PowerShot SX500 IS special? It puts an incredible 30X optical zoom in your hands so you can capture brilliant photographs from near and far! Equipped with 16 megapixel resolution and the DIGIC 4 image processor, this camera gives you crystal-clear shots from nearly any distance and in virtually every setting. And, the 24mm wide-angle lens (35mm equivalent: 24-720mm) makes this camera ideal for photographing large groups and scenic landscapes. Is it easy to use? You bet it is! Advanced technologies make it effortless to capture gorgeous shots--whether you just started dabbling in photography or you're an old pro. Optical image stabilization ensures practically every shot is blur-free, and improved Smart AUTO intelligently selects the proper settings for the camera based on 32 predefined shooting situations. When you're finished capturing your footage, you can review your great work on the large 3" diagonal LCD display. Does it record movies? Not only does it record video, it lets you capture crystal-clear 720p HD video in stereo sound with the dedicated movie button--you can even zoom in and out on the action while shooting. Then play it all back on an HDTV via the mini HDMI output and your own HDMI cable (not included). You'll be ready to shoot immediately, here or there, thanks to the included 8GB SDHC memory card and camera bag. What's in the box? PowerShot SX500 IS camera, case (for camera only), 8GB SDHC memory card, battery pack, charger, neck strap, lens cap, USB cable, Getting Started Guide, and Digital Camera Solution CD-ROM (full manual on disc) From Canon. Read the Amazon reviews for this camera. And I know I sound like a broken record, make sure you buy a service contract.

Thank you for the info. According to the online program guide that will be the tsv on 12/15, not 12/16.

Thank you for all the replies and suggestions! This is exactlly what I have been looking for and it is a great price with all the "extras". I have read as many reviews as I can find and will definately buy a service contract with my purchase.

I received this Canon PowerShot SX500 IS 16 mp 30x zoom as an early Christmas Gift. I own the bigger bulkier version of this camera (PowerShot S5 IS 8 mp and 12X zoom) which I've had for a couple of years. I loved that camera, but was having problems with indoor night shots lately. Prior owned digital cameras were Richoh and Olympus. After watching the TSV last night, all I saw was photos taken at different zoom settings, not how to actually use the camera. Yes, the Auto, Scene and Manual modes were mentioned, the hosts did not take you through the details of using them. This camera does not come with a complete manual. I printed off 224 pages from the manual which is on the included software. Each page was inserted into a plastic sleeve for protection. The camera can not be used right out of the box. The battery must be charged prior to use. The camera is light weight, takes beautiful photos, has an awesome zoom, but I would not chose this camera for my first digital camera. The hosts spent too much time on showing photos and not enough information on actually how to use the camera. I was very disappointed with the TSV presentation by hosts last night. I did add a service contract with purchase.

I agree with Newfmom's previous reply...too much time spent on showing photos and not enough on basic operation of the camera. Also, do research before purchasing any camera online anywhere, not just QVC! There are sites which compare different cameras as to specifications and performance (snapsort.com and sortable.com are two I can think of). Don't just go for the most zoom; also look into aperture settings and speed in regular and boost shooting modes. Price is another consideration. Easy pay sounds great but if it's more than another site is offering for the same camera is it worth it? I was researching cameras recently and came up with the Canon SX260 being a better camera than this one. I also saw that speed-wise the Panasonic Lumix DMC-ZS15 (which I have now) and ZS19 or ZS20 are better than even the Canon SX260. Read and research before purchasing no matter how good a deal it seems to be!

I am not buying because they have not discussed much about USING the camera - for example, most of the reviews on amazon talk about how the flash is manual not automatic - what would that mean for the average person using? is there a viewfinder - I am never buying another camera without one, etc. If they cannot do a good presentation I am not buying anything from QVC anymore because I want to know what I am getting and how it works. People on amazon have not liked this particular camera, or they have loved it so those reviews put me on the fence.
