Do the Lock & Lock products contain BPA?

That's a great question. My suspicion is that, yes, they do otherwise they would advertise over and over "BPA free". Since they aren't saying either way, I think they definitely do.
That's exactly why I'm not buying the TSV....BPA free or nothing.

I purchased the TSV.  What is BPA?

BPA stands for "Bisphenol A" and it's chemical found in some plastics that are suspected of a number of health issues (cancer, hormone disruption, etc). You will see plastics now available without BPA which definitely advertise as "BPA free".

Since the L & L don't advertise as such I suspect it contains BPA or else they would be screaming from the rooftops that it's BPA free.

Lock & Lock plastic containers *are* BPA free.

Almost all Lock & Lock are made from Polypropylene, and polypropylene does NOT contain BPA. I think they should mention that in their presentations, but perhaps they don't because a lot of other QVC products do contain it.

The regular line of L&L is indeed made from polypropylene, which is a plastic that does not contain BPA and that has so far been considered free of any adverse health effects. L&L does make a limited line of polycarbonate items that would contain BPA, but they are clearly labeled and not that common.

If you want to verify, remember that you can look for the recycling number on the bottom of the container. Polypropylene has a #5; polycarbonate has a #7.

That's good to know, Suzy.  I was wondering that myself since I have a lot of Lock & Lock.

Respectfully ~

Glad the information was helpful, SK. People really need to take a minute or two to find out the answers before speculating.

When I said that L&L makes a very limited number of polycarbonate items and that they are clearly labeled, it's absolutely true. Currently they have only one such set available on QVC -- Lock & Lock 5-piece Polycarbonate Storage Set with Color Lids (K17510). All the rest, more than 50 sets, are fromt their regular line and made of polypropylene.

Personally, I choose to avoid polycarbonate, although the main danger is to young children and infants and primarily from heating liquids or food in it, which I don't do regardless of the type of plastic just because I don't want to risk staining or melting.

I bought the TSV and it came a couple of days ago but I haven't opened it yet....Mom is in the hospital so I have no time to do a thing....but I buy most of my Lock&Lock at Ross or JCPenney....and they have little round stickers on them that say "No BPA"

hope that helps
