I have thought this exact same thing for several years. I got some older Cooks Essentials metal baking pans a number of years ago and they came with lock on plastic lids with handles. They are kind of "domed" for lack of a better term, and allow for things that fill the pan all the way (like an iced cake or cupcakes) to be covered, but not ruined by the lid.

I have always wished that Tara made the plastic storage covers for at least the 9x13 like that, as most times if I bake and ice a cake, then place the plastic storage cover on, I mess up the icing at least in the center of the cake.
