It's pronounced "lenGTH". It's like nails down a chalkboard every time she mispronounces length. It's like the laziness of saying "aksed" instead of the proper "asked".

Ugh.

Re: Hey Susan, it's NOT "lenth"

Wow. You wouldn't want to be around me. I'm usually in too much of a hurry to add the "g". (I do, however, say "asked"!)

It is if you have a NYC accent!

Re: Hey Susan, it's NOT "lenth"

This comes up so often- it's a regional dialect. I'm from the same area as Susan and 'tawk' the same way! It's not a misuse of the English language like "aksed" vs "asked".

Although I don't say it like Susan does, the dictionary states her pronunciation is acceptable.

Sorry it bothers you, but that is the way that she pronounces that word. Don't think she is going to be changing it anytime soon! In the scheme of things, it really isn't such of a big deal, is it?

Yes, it is a regional pronunciation and an acceptable pronunciation. There are many words spoken in different areas of the country that sound strange to my ears but I don't complain about it. I accept it as a difference.
