We like to think that the show hosts and vendors/product specialists believe in the products they are selling, and that they wear or use these items themselves. Some do, but in my opinion, many don't. The latter are the hucksters. They could sell us anything-- even house dust! I'd like to think most of them are sincere, but some are just good actors.

Re: Salespeople or hucksters?

Sorry, but I don't share your opinion .... and don't believe that the hosts use all QVC products.

I also don't believe that a sales person is a "huckster" if they don't. Their job is to PRESENT THE PRODUCT, explaining pertinent features and details.

Nothing is for everyone, and while I might find something I want and love, it may do nothing for you ... so what? {#emotions_dlg.confused1}

I think the hosts' job is to be articulate and well informed about the products they present, and I'll make up my own mind. I have never been influenced to buy because the host has it. {#emotions_dlg.thumbdown}

Re: Salespeople or hucksters?

They are all just salespeople, nothing more. They are selling a product. Some like some things and some don't. The one thing I know has to be bogus is a hosts favorite things in a show. Some of the stuff they sell during those shows couldn't possibly be a favorite! Salespeople use all kinds of tricks and gimmicks to get people to buy. They may not be illegal or even unethical but they are gimmicks. Buyers should always beware.

Re: Salespeople or hucksters?

To me, it's about how they do their job, which is to sell. Some of them are salespersons, some of them clearly approach huckster-hood...

Re: Salespeople or hucksters?

The hosts are goo d sales people who also have a flair for acting, Amy and Rick are former actors. I think the line is crossed when they profess to be your friend and give you advice and talk about their personal lives under the guise of getting you to part with your cash. As long as you get that then there is no harm done, but the way posters seem to idolize and defend these hosts I have to wonder.

Re: Salespeople or hucksters?

The selling tactics are definitely pushing me away, I am tired of the "perfect" band wagon, this is perfect length, perfect color, perfect - perfect - perfect... Reminds me of MARSHA MARSHA MARSHA...

And I definitely dig my heels in when I hear "you NEED this!"... please don't tell me what I NEED.

I say just give me the facts, material weight, sizes etc... enough to make an intelligent decision whether I want to roll the dice and lose money if it doesn't fit.

Re: Salespeople or hucksters?

They are neither, they are strictly into this for sales, there is not one item they are not going to try and sell, not one, so how can there be an realness? I do like it when you can tell they personally endorse something, but only a few are sincere enough to be able to tell.
