I have found that, initially, I liked the hook and loop closures on the Orthoheels and Clarks shoes. Unfortunately, I found that as you wear the footware, the hook and loops don't hold as well. I almost fell down and got hurt when my Orthoheels let go and I am having issues with Clarks that I bought just last year. I am almost falling out of them by the time I walk from the parking lot to my office.
I understand that many people like the hook and loops and have no issues, but it seems all the nice sandals just have that option. I had to buy my new sandals from Amazon (they were Clarks, but had a regular buckle).

I just think the hook-and-loop closures just make any shoe look cheap so it is always a deal-breaker for me

I JUST DONT BUY SHOES IF THEY HAVE THE VELCRO ON THEM. MY EXPERIENCE HAS BEEN THAT THE STRAP IS USUALLY NOT LONG ENOUGH FOR ME AND IT ENDS UP ONLY ABLE TO COME TOGETHER FOR ABOUT A 1/2 INCH AND THATS NOT ENOUGH TO KEEP IT SECURE!
