My little cousin just posted on Facebook that she made some Apple Pie Flowers to take to a church function. I didn't get her recipe, but I found the following recipe online that looks pretty simple - and very similar to her picture of hers!
I don't remember ever seeing or hearing about these, so I thought I'd share here for those of you who haven't, either. I got the recipe from a youtube video, and it would be best to go watch the video before making, I think....
If you make these, let us know about your experience, please!
1 cup cake flour
1 red apple
2 Tbsp sugar
1 Tbsp honey
3 Tbsp water
1/2 stick butter
For apple preparation:
o Cut the apple in half, and remove the core.
o Slice the apple.
o Put apple slices into a saucepan.
o Add Sugar, honey and water to pot.
o Cook apples for about 3-5 minutes
o Remove apples from pot and cool, reserving water.
For dough/crust:
· Put butter and 3 Tbsp cooked apple water into a bowl.
· Sift in 1 cup cake flour.
· Mix to make dough. Then, knead dough until it becomes smooth.
· Cut the dough in half and roll out each piece (like pie crust).
· Cut dough into strips about 1 inch wide by 8-10 inches in length.
· On each strip of dough, place 5 or 6 of the cooked apple slices on top. (overlap them by about 1/2)
· Then, roll up the dough with apples and put into a cupcake mold.
· Put into baking pan and bake for 15-18 minutes in 350 degree oven.
· Brush honey on roses and sprinkle with sugar and cinnamon.
Yields about 10 rose tarts

You are very welcome!! Some instructions show using a mandolin to slice the apples.
There's a step-by-step instructional with photos at this site:

I want to add that one of the videos showed the person using a purchased dough, so that would make it VERY easy!! I believe the one in that video is puff pastry.
It was fun looking around!

Hi, Diamond Girly! What a great find, and it doesn't look to difficult. Thanks for sharing this.
Of course, I got sidetracked to the other fruit carvings that the site pointed to, and thoroughly enjoyed it. I don't have the patience to do those intridcate carvings, but I think I can slice on apple!

sfnative and Beebee2, you are both very welcome! I was happy to find such an adorable and easy craft, so to speak!
Beebee2, I also got sidetracked with the veggie/fruit carving! I loved the lotus flower carved from the cucumber! Lots of fun to watch!
