This recipe idea has been around quite awhile, but the filling is often cottage cheese with some other ingredients added. The cream cheese is a very nice change. Add as much chopped celery and nuts as you like, but not tooooo much! I thought this might be fun for a red salad on Valentine's Day.

Red Hots Apple Salad

4-6 apples, peeled and cored
1 c water
1/3 c red hots
4 oz cream cheese to start with
chopped celery to taste
chopped pecans or walnuts to taste

Cook the whole peeled and cored apples in water with the red hots until tender.

Spoon syrup over apples 4-5 times until they are red.

Remove the apples from the pan and fill the cavities with cream cheese, chopped celery, and nuts.
