Philosophy At Walmart

Started 1348800127.01 in philosophy | Last reply 1349899808.99 by Angel1948

I've been meaning to post about this but keep forgetting. Anyhow, I wanted to let you all know that I saw some Philosophy shower gels at Walmart. There isn't much variety, and they are scents that have been out for a while, but they are each $13.00. I was surprised. Actually, I had to do a double take to make sure I was seeing Philosophy!

i think the last time this happened (philosophy was seen at target and walmar), didn't philosophy claim they were not supposed to be there? ie., not through official channels? walmart also has some recent philosophy look-alike products.

i've never seen anything in my area. will be interesting to see if others report similar sightings.

I take pleasure in my 'transformations'. I look quiet and consistent, but few know how many women there are in me.

I heard conflicting reports about whether or not they were supposed to be sold at Target. So I never really knew what was going on with that situation. That was about four years ago or so. However I've never heard anything about Walmart. I have seen the dupes that look like Philosophy products but these are the real thing. I'll be interested to hear if anyone else sees them too.

Someone wrote a good while back that she saw them in the cosmetics section of one of the bigger, nicer grocery stores. She was very adamant that philosophy shouldn't sell their products in places like that. I guess she thinks it cheapens the brand. I don't know........ I have a lot of expensive philosophy products from their online site, Ulta, and a few from the Q. However, I have bought others from places like TJMaxx, and a bunch when the Supernatural line appeared in Big Lots. Not lately, but I saw the authentic shower gels in Rite Aid several years ago.

I would check the bottles. Someone posted a picture once of a shower gel she purchased at WalMart and it had the "Award Winning Ultra Rich formula" on it and we all know that has not been used for years. SO be careful.

Hi colliemom3,

First, I want to thank you for your very kind words over on the Pet Forum. I appreciate what you said so much.

What Philosophy scents did you find at Wal-Mart? I have never seen Philosophy at any of the discount stores, except Big Lots of course. lol

I go to prepare a place for you, in my father's house are many mansions.

Hi Tissyannie!

I saw Mimosa, Raspberry Sorbet, Coconut Frosting and FOF. There may have been another one, but that was about it. I've purchased quite a bit of the makeup at Big Lots too but have never seen Phil at Walmart. I love all the makeup I got.

I imagine the old stock has to go somewhere, so it probably goes to the highest bidder. Even Walmart!

I think a lot of people like the Mimosa and the Raspberry Sorbet. I also am really enjoying the make up from Big Lots.

I love the makeup from Big Lots. I wasn't aware that people had seen Philosophy in Target. If Target started regularly carrying Philosophy products, I'd get a Target credit card for sure.

I think di-mc is right that old stock goes to the highest bidder, whoever that is. If you want guaranteed fresh product, best to stick to the usual channels like Phil.com, Qvc, Sephora, Nordstrom, Macy's, and Ulta. Even at Overstock.com and Hautelook, a lot of the product is old and/or discontinued stuff.

Personally, I'm happy to have the option to get cheap Philosophy, even if it's "B-quality." I wonder how many Wal-Marts are carrying it...

Mona-target did have Philosophy, but it was several years ago. Mine didnt but I was in a Chicago store and they did along with Strivectin and other high end products featured on an end cap. I believe others had found Coachbags there around the same time. I eould guess this was sbout 8 years ago. (time flies!)

I have yet to see Philosophy at Walmart, or Target, or Big Lots.

I do know that Walmart carries a brand called Bodycology (sort of sounds like Philosophy, IMO) and I purchased a few of their products years ago. Didn't really like them much if I remember correctly.

But I've never seen Philosophy at any stores other than Ulta, Sephora, TJ's, Marshalls, Macy's, Dillards, Nordstrom, etc. Someone also said that some Sally's carried them but I've never seen them there either.

My thoughts exactly! It's been very sad to see the downward turn of this great cosmetic company.

My local Target carried a few higher-end brands years ago. I remember seeing Ed Hardy bags (when they were popular) and some high-end makeup there a few times.

Lately I am not impressed with anything from Philosophy except the purity cleanser...something has changed with that co. I am surpsied that QVC still has them on air. Especially now that TJ and Ulta carry the brand.

I love their Purity Made Simple. It's very clean and light and it works well with removing makeup. Best facial cleanser I've purchased thus far.

Philosophy has made me sad. I no longer love them the way I did. AG has changed and even Purity Made Simple has changed for the worse. I still like Purity OK but is IS DIFFERENT. I have moved on to companies with more integrity.

They carry Philosophy at the grocery store I shop at. No skincare - just shower gels and lotions.

It's possible it is "black market" Philosophy.

I know someone who worked for Bumble&Bumble and she said Target gets their B&B product through distributors who are not authroized to sell to them. But I guess it is hard to resist the volume that Target might sell. And it must be hard to switch distributors. I am sure it is the same for other high end products seen at drugstores. If a product is sold at a drugstore and the label says sold only sold in salons you know there is something wrong there.

Ditto.

I remember purchasing a salon-brand (I forget which one) shampoo at Rite Aid a couple years ago. I thought I was getting a good deal, because it was $10 cheaper than at the salon I went to. I took my shampoo home and used it and it was okay, nothing great but it functioned as shampoo would. My salon then had a great deal on theirs (same shampoo) and I ended up purchasing it from the salon about a month later, and noticed that the formula was completely different and MUCH better.

I do not trust any higher-end beauty product that one could find at a drugstore. I understand that most drugstores and superstores sell authentic products in brands like Paul Mitchell, Redken, CHI, etc. but there are certain products that one could exclusively purchase at a salon or specialty store; these products should not be in drugstores and if they are, they are likely fake.

I don't know about Walmart's Philosophy being fake, though. But I wonder why, if they were "leftovers", they didn't go to TJ's or Marshalls and did go to Walmart. Weird.

I also am not as enamored with Philosophy as I once was; I still use Purity and am finishing up my shower gels but that is probably it for me.

I would be very skeptical of buying anything that appeared to be Philosophy from Walmart...especially if it is 13 dollars...that is not much of the discount I would want for risking that it is counterfeit.

I know longer use Philosophy shower gels as they no longer carry the scent like they once did. Cinnamon Buns was my favorite and the last time I bought it I couldn't even smell it.
