Catlvr, a few ideas. Go back to your vet and say, let's start over. Let's take a look at this from an overall fresh perspective. If that's not an option, I suggest you get to a specialty animal hospital/clinic and book him with an internist. Many friends with baffling or complex cases did this, and with good results...they are great puzzle solvers and can give you solid options.
Surprisingly, they don't always cost and arm and a leg for a first consult. Some may work with your vet, or Your vet may know of some. You say your kitty is no better....but not what this means specifically, so it seems you are stuck/stumped. I remember once we had to take our cat Schmoo for dental work with a great specialist...and he told us that often various dental problems are mistakenly identified as the cause of a cat's malaise, when in many cases, the culprit was something like chronic pancreatitis, a more subtle thing to spot.
i hope this makes some sense. I remember how much you love your cats.

He is a fighter and has a fighter Mom....Of course I would have to be your first responder!
Given what you say is ailing him, it's still worth a consult with an internist or endocrinologist...maybe your vet respects or consults with one....never hurts to ask. Schmoo's own excellent vet attended continuing ed conferences and always collected business cards of specialists and hooked us up with the "dental whisperer" vet.
Give Rudolph a gentle scruffle and hugs and kisses from me. He's got the right Mom in his corner! And I'll try to think of more ideas for him.

Spent three days at the vets on an IV. He is lying in front of the fireplace right now, relaxed and as sweet as can be. He's a darling, sweet boy and I love him to bits. I've got to get him better.
catlvr, can you look for a holistic vet in your area? There are many listed on the computer. I understand loving kitties, I've had them all my life. I will pray for Rudolph..please give him a hug for me..!

Some of the sickest cats get better when they are put on a no-grain, limited ingredient, canned food (wet) diet.
Dr. Becker has a video out about this condition and she offers a lot of good tips. Here's the link: http://healthypets.mercola.com/sites/healthypets/archive/2012/02/06/dr-becker-discusses-feline-stom...
I have a kitty who had this condition and had to have her upper teeth removed. She is now on a limited ingredient canned food diet and is doing fine.
After the teeth are removed, it does take some time for the cat's mouth to heal and for the condition to resolve. Try changing your cat's diet to a no-grain, limited ingredient diet and see if that helps.
Keep up the good work, your cat will get better.

Ita! My minpin had tummy issues and they disappeared when I put her on a grain free diet. Grains/gluten make me sick and probably brought on my diabetes! Now both Emmy and I are on a gluten and grain free diet!
I read Dr. Becker's blog and have subscribed to her newsletter! She's right on the mark. So many vets/doctors treat symptoms and NOT the source. She also mentions vaccines..Emmy hasn't been vaccinated since she was a puppy and frontline almost killed her. She is very sensitive to anykind of chemical. Thank God for vets like Dr. Becker that understand this~ I can relate, I've always been sensitive to any medicines and thats what started my journey with a holistic doctor! Thanks again for this article Jeremiah..you might read Shirley's wellness cafe..I have been reading her blogs for years!

I agree with the specialist route. I would think about giving it a try.
I did it once for my kitty with chronic upper respiratory issues.
Nothing much helps and we feel we have done most everything.
She still sneezes constantly, putting snot all over our house. But one vet came up with something where she doesn't get sick. She takes an antibiotic every 3 days, and she's only been sick a few times since we started it.
Wish they could come up with something to stop the sneezing and snot everywhere!
