From your first kisses so wet

I knew my search was over.

You’d live with me; and be my pet

So off we drove in my Land Rover.

The first order of business

cringing at the thought of this

was to meet the princess

who greeted you with a hiss.

Training my new pup

seemed to take forever

but as you grew up

we understood one another.

Throughout the years

you’ve been a joy

even those with canine fears

fell in love with my boy.

What a clown you could be

when facing new tasks

on our trip to the sea

you stole a young boy’s mask.

I watched in horror

for the mother to react

she let out a laugh

and patted your back.

You ran toward a family at the bay

Headed straight for the mother

Who is this I heard her say

That’s our dog, we call him Gunther.

Now we must let you go

you will live on in our hearts

know that we love you so

I hate that we must part.

One last hug; and one last kiss

before you cross over rainbow bridge

your sweet face I’ll forever miss

for without you now we must manage.

Absolutely beautiful and forever memorable.

Make-Up LVR, I, too, am sorry for your loss. Be this the first or one of many you've loved thru the years, may tomorrow find you stronger.

My heart and my sympathy goes out to you on the loss of your beloved Gunther. It was so clear from your poignant tribute that he had a most wonderful life and it's also evident that his presence in yours will be deeply missed.

Please find comfort in the fact that Gunther knew how much he was loved, that he was surround by that same love when you sent him to The Bridge with dignity and in peace and that he's now happily running like a puppy with all of his new friends thru the sunlit meadows of that most blessed place.

((((((((((((MAKE-UP & HER PRECIOUS GUNTHER))))))))))

Thank you for your kind words. So many say it's just a dog or just a cat... But they are family and he was with me for 14 years. It also doesn't matter whether it's your first or 100th pet, it's so hard to say good bye. I know he knew he was loved. My husband and I have been accused several times of spoiling him, which in my opinion is what we as humans should do for our pets. Gunther was my third dog and my second golden retriever.

Tears are streaming as I read your poem. I know the pain you are feeling, I let my Faith go 3 weeks ago.

I lit a candle for Gunther at Pet Loss.com on the QVC board.

The people here on this forum will help us with our healing.
