September's Bird Nest - Summer's Last Hurrah

Welcome Birding Friends and Visitors Smile. There are still a few weeks of summer left to enjoy before we prepare for the change of season. I featured birds at sunset this month, imagining they are preparing to rest after a busy summer day.

In honor of the American holiday of Labor Day, the bird of the day is a Martial Eagle:

Re: September's Bird Nest - Summer's Last Hurrah

When someone says

Hi Birding Friends, Happy September first! I thought I'd follow Birdmama's idea and post an eagle too.

It's 89 already and the heat index is 95. Steam bath outside. Of course the bird feeder is just about empty and I filled it last evening and put a lot of bread out too. Not sure if the possum still comes around at night as I haven't seen him in a long time. My brother told me that the possums at home are eating the dry catfood that the outside cats aren't finishing. I told my DD to get Meow Mix for them as that's what they like and she got Kit and Kaboodle, and they don't like it very much. Happy possums though.

Not too much planned for today though a run to Publix is needed. We go through eggs like a hot knife goes through butter. DS fixed huge hamburgers for supper last night along with a very peppery pasta. He picked 4 Carribean Red habaneros off his plant and also 3 jalapenos. It was really good and spicy. It also had poblano peppers in it too.

Guess I''ll get busy and clip coupons to have ready for Publix. Have a lovely Labor Day and a nice week

Waving to all Birding Friends, Stay cool and be safe.

Happy Labor Day

Hello there Birding Friends. It's back to work on this dreary, rainy day in SE Michigan.

Today's bird of the day is a combination of what commonly lives and eats in my yard. Take a squirrel and a bird, put them together and you get a

Fascinating bird, with the long striped tail.

Re: September's Bird Nest - Summer's Last Hurrah

OMG! I just posted a long post, and it didn't go through!

Havn't the energy nor momentum to even try to repost, but will say a few things.

Possumm - Yes, DD is enjoying college, right now mostly decorating her room "her" way. Her bed is on top, so underneath, instead of another bed, is a large tall storage space. Her desk is outside of that area, and she also has a closet, and one roommate, so far so good. Of course, the work isn't piled on until the second month. She emails daily, and calls almost daily. She misses the pups. She is not loving the weather. She dressed for a warm day, and while she was out, it rained so she was drenched, lol. She will like it better when the snow begins, I am sure. I just love snow, it is so invigorating and beautiful.

I LOVE the cat pictures you post on that thread, and go there only to see what you have posted. I save them, and the birds here, in a file marked, "Animals and Birds."

The Quail were here sporadically, but I expect them back now that all of the commotion is done with. The bunny still hops around, and my girl terrier would just love to chase it, which is why I have to leash her on the way to the patch.

Today, the galvanized pipes, original, are being replaced as I have bad drainage in the kitchen, another unexpected huge expense. Nothing has gone smoothly in the kitchen project. It has been quite the ordeal. I am happy with the extended laundry room as it was so small before. Lots of extra storage room due to the steel shelving units I bought, and it will soon hold a six foot long, seven foot tall bookcase for my hoard of cookbooks. I bought it unfinished, and just may leave it that way, otherwise, I will have to paint it.

Hopefully, the final inspection will happen this week, and then I can get back to normal living. What began as a six month project, rec room, two decks, family room, and kitchen, has evolved into eleven months, so am really burned out at this point, and the bathrooms still have to be done, when I don't know. I have managed to fill all of the drawers, pantries, and the hutch, but can't appear to be using the kitchen for the final inspection, so will have to clear counters, but the island and table are loaded with things yet to be stored. I am looking forward to the day that I won't have to be "at the ready," and can also garden any day I want to instead of evening or on the weekends.

Guess I had more momentum than I thought, as I said a lot, lol.

Beautiful weather these days, hot, but not humid, and a nice breeze today. Hope everyone enjoys the week.

MOUSIE, I saw where you had posted on the scrapbooking, I enjoy watching them and have bought several kits. They are such good values. I need to remodel my stamping, painting, design, etc. Room. Sometimes its a jumbled up mess. I know you will be glad when all is complete. POSSUMMINK, today is a special day, my niece is having a c section and we'll all get to meet new baby Cai. Can hardly wait, been up since 2:30. It's hot and steamy here as well. There is a good chance of flash flooding tomorrow. I tried to post last week and it disappeared into thin air. Very frustrating. BIRDMAMA I know we've all learned a lot from your pics of birds. They're beautiful. Hope everyone has a good day.

Re: September's Bird Nest - Summer's Last Hurrah

Hi STepping Stone - glad to see you. Mousiegirl, how are things with you. Puddles Love the bird you posted and Possum, the Eagle is magnificent. I check on the African Black EAgle almost daily. Saw it born and soon it will fly away - its on Africam - also saw one born last year. They do a great job on trying to keep them going. They have such fascinating sights with so many various critters. Also enjoy the baby cheetahs which are growing up quickly also. I think my favorite is the Baby Rhino whose Mother was killed to get her horn. It is getting big and is cute as can be - it has a little goat to keep it company at nighttime. Bear in mind the Rhino is getting really big now and I guess that little goat loves to keep it company. LOL.

Have some errands to do - of course, what is new - and then to Beaumont for the church luncheon which this church just started two months ago - it has grown by leaps and bounds. This is the church Olin is now a part of. Will pick up two ladies and we will head down the freeway and enjoy the time. That church is really growing. Heard some more horror stories yesterday about the once magnificent church I use to attend. So very sad.Just have never heard of such things happening at a Church. Unreal!!

Hope all have a great day - birds were hovering like crazy yesterday. Hummingbirds are still scarce - that continues to bother me as there seems to be no reason for it.

Re: September's Bird Nest - Summer's Last Hurrah

Good Morning everyone

Possummink - I bet you've seen this bird of the day - Floria Scrub Jay Wink. When are you coming home to the Midwest? Autumn isn't the same without you.

Puddles - how are things across the pond? When do you come back to the states for the extended visit again?

Mousiegirl - you're a saint. I can only imagine the co$t of the plumbing {#emotions_dlg.scared}. I'm glad that your DD is settling in to her new digs.

Stepping Stone - so good to see you and congratulations on the arrival of Cai {#emotions_dlg.wub}

Winifred - I'm glad that you found a church and congregation that you can enjoy. It's too bad that your former church has been ruined by the new nut pastor.

Meuw4 - In case you read these periodically, I'm thinking about you and your family.
