Sorry, NY Design Team, but you are WRONG!

The word Jacobean is pronounced jak-uh-bee-uhn

It is NOT pronounced Ja KOH be un

This word references the reign of James I of England (post Elizabeth I) whose followers were called Jacobites. The designs in crewel, fabrics, tapestries became more floral, especially using an outlining technique to highlight each motif. We are not talking about a lower East side tailor, we are referring to the king of England, then the worlds largest power, and the beautiful and intricate artistry associated with his rule.

IT SHOULD BE PRONOUNCED SHUR LIKE FUR !!!!!!!!! YOU SHEER SHEEP...YOU SHUR FABRIC

I HAVE ONLY HEARD A FEW OF THE DESIGNERS PRONOUNCE CORRECTLY. I HAVEN'T HEARD ANY OF THE HOSTS PRONOUNCE IT RIGHT YET !

You're right ... Jacobean is not such an obscure word. They should know better.

My pet peeve is surplice .... it's not pronounced surplees with accent on second syllable. Correct pronunciation is surplis with the accent on first syllable.

Savories......you are SO right. When I heard that discussion this morning, I couldn't believe it. Thank you for saying something in print. (Last night, Shawn described a purse as "demonstrative"......my mouth fell open.)

My pet peeve grammar faux pas is "also too." "Also too the length is just perfect." It is so clearly incorrect. As a long time teacher, I nipped this one in the bud in elementary school. I didn't want my students to sound uneducated. I am just so surprised how often I hear that error on QVC and HSN.

You're absolutely right, Kathleen. Yet when you see how consistently the most basic spelling and grammatical errors occur on these forums alone, you realize why both these words are apt to be mispronounced.

Another word that is botched is huarache. ALL of the hosts pronounce it ha ra chi. Wrong, wrong, wrong! It is pronounced wa ra che. The h is silent. This coming from a Latina who has worn them all of her life.
