Banana Pudding Poke Cake

1 box yellow cake mix + ingredients called for on box

2 small boxes banana instant pudding mix

4 cups milk

8 oz. Cool Whip

Vanilla wafer crumbs

Bananas

Prepare cake according to instructions on box for a 9 X 13 cake.

With the handle of a wooden spoon, poke holes into cake about 1" apart.

Whisk together pudding mixes and milk until mixture just begins to thicken. Slowly pour over cake and spread to fill holes and coat cake. Refrigerate for two hours.

Spread whipped topping over pudding layer and refrigerate.

Before serving sprinkle with vanilla wafer crumbs and top with banana slices.

Re: Banana Pudding Poke Cake

My mom used to make a poke cake with Baileys irish creme mixed in with some cinnamon and sweetened condensed milk - pour that over the cake then ""frost "" with cool whip mixed with some of the cinnamon and some powdered sugar and another shot of Baileys.

Yum, yum, FunkyHulaGirl...sounds delicious! I have never made a poke cake. How far down into the cake do you need to poke with the handle of the wooden spoon? Like halfway down into the cake? Please advise me. Thank you, EEL

Re: Banana Pudding Poke Cake

EEL, I go pretty far down - almost to the bottom - except for poke cupcakes, in which case I go about 3/4 of the way down.

I'd like to try this as our New Year's dessert. Sweetened Condensed Milk is a bit sweet for my taste. Do you use only about 5 oz, or the whole can?
