Has anyone here used Just Whites for royal icing? I usually use meringue powder, but ran out and our local grocery store didn't have it. So I bought Just Whites but wondering if it will work and if I should substitute equal amounts for the meringue powder.

Re: Just Whites For Royal Icing

I have not used "Just Whites." Use only fresh eggs, so offer up the following for anyone who may want it. Have used it for years with much success.

Royal Icing: 2 egg whites and 2-1/2 cups sifted powdered sugar. In a large bowl and using a hand mixer, beat the egg whites until they are frothy and slightly thickened. Add the sifted sugar into the whites ½ cup at a time, beating thoroughly after each addition. Continue to beat for about 5 minutes or until stiff icing is formed. Add a small round decorating tip to a pastry bag and work with 1 cup of the icing at a time.

Enjoy! - Rebecca
