Does anyone have a good method to peel a butternut squash?
I use peelers, small knives, large knives, you name it. It takes a long time and is tedious.

I always bake mine, then cool and peel. The skin softens when it bakes.

Do you bake it until the skin is soft enough to peel or bake it until it's cooked?
I ask because I'm going to use it in a recipe that will require braising.

You can also soften in the microwave just enough to peel or cut in half to bake.
Oh-put a few small holes with a fork first.

This is the only thing I buy pre-sliced, pre-cut. It is worth paying 3x the price so that I don't end up in the emergency room.
I hate fighting with my food LOL
I also buy the frozen cooked pureed from Birdseye. Saves a step if it needs to be pureed anyway.

Vabelle, I buy the packages from the market also! It's well worth the price. I nearly gave myself carpal tunnel from trying to peel a 3 pound squash.
I want bigger cubes for this dish.

Stab it with a knife 2-3 times and put it on a glass dish...put in the microwave for 5 minutes. You don't want to cook it all the way. You only want to soften it. It makes cutting it up easy.
