Haloumi cheese substitution needed

I had never heard of this type of cheese until this summer and I am running into all kinds of recipes that use it. I plan on ordering some, but until it gets here, is there a decent substitute? From what I have read, it sounds like a salty mozzarella, but I could be totally wrong. Any suggestions for substitutes would be appreciated. Thanks, Poodlepet

it sort of has the consistency of mozzarella, havarti, and monterey jack, maybe just a tad firmer/chewier and doesnt melt quite like those cheeses do.

Feta cheese can be used as a substitute if your recipe would benefit from a salty flavor.
