Kitchenaid vs. Wolfgang Pick Stand Mixer

Started 1349635813.01 in Kitchen & Food Talk | Last reply 1350497262.447 by lilypad3

I was watching ITKWD this afternoon and they were presenting a 550 (I think) watt mixer. It was $420 plus $20 S/H/ I really do think it should be free on such a high end product.

I flipped over to HSN and they were presenting the 700 watt Wolfgang Puck Mixer that was a commerical grade mixer with all kinds of attachments for $249 plus free s/h.

QVC should take a lesson from HSN and ShopNBC. They always offer cheaper s/h on their products.

Infact I think that they should not even charge s/h on some of the D&B bags they present either. $400 for a bag and then an additional $11 for s/h.

I dont get it....

A few posted about a KA stand mixer being a TSV shortly.

In the next few weeks with the holidays approaching, I'm sure you'll have a selection of KA mixers to choose from.

I can speak from experience - I ordered a Wolfgang Standmixer - not this model, but was a really good price. I wanted to get the meat grinder attachment - guess what - they stopped making the model.

I then realized should I break or misplace my beater or want an additional bowl - I would not be able to buy it. However if you save and buy a Kitchenaid 3 years or 10 years from now I believe you will be able to buy that additional beater, that additional bowl or whatever attachment.

QVC has the 6 quart as a TSV - I think it was $299 a while back - I just was diagnosed with celiac disease, soy, egg, dairy and nut allergies - I was pretty bummed out and knew I would have to make my own stuff so I splurged.

THERE WAS NO COMPARISON BETWEEN THE MIXERS! I thought the Wolfgang Puck mixer worked well until I got the Kitchenaid. The Kitchenaid much more thoroughly mixes batters, dough..

I did notice that Costco has it online for $349.99 with $19.99 s/h and an $60 mail in rebate - some of the Costco stores might have the mixers.

I would wait for the TSV. If you can't - check out on Ebay Premier appliance - they have alot of refurbished products.

I have never tried the Wolfgang - but I can certainly talk about Kitchenaide. My mom's KA was over 40 yrs. old and still works like a charm. We sold it today on an estate sale. My first KA is close to 30 yrs. old - Harvest Gold. Last Nov.(??) the TSV was the new model with the glass bowl and the rubber scraper attachment so I splurged and bought it. 6 easy pays, 4 attachments, free s/h AND a certificate for a free $40 meat grinder attachment. Plus QVC has more colors than any other place. Plus all the attachments fit my 2011 model - and also my mom's 40 yr. old model. I'm sure there will be a TSV before the holidays. Enjoy!

The shipping and handling on QVC is ludicrous. What other online vendor does not offer free shipping after a dollar amount, or at least a flat rate? Go to Kohl's or Amazon or one of the cooking sites for the mixer. All you will get on QVC is easy pay or a different color.

I gave my mom a Hamilton Beach stand mixer 60 years ago. It still works. My DS now has it. Can't speak to the quality of HB these days, but the old ones were really good. I've never had a Kitchen Aid. I'm sure they are great, I just don't do much baking/cooking.

There are none so blind as those who will not see.

My point exactly - ludicrous. I purchased a 6 quart electric PC on Kohls site using 30%, and $20 in Kohls cash, free shipping and it was like $58. I love it. So easy to use.

I guess QVC doesnt have to because people are still willing to pay for outrageous S/H.

True, the S&H is high, but the mixer cannot be beat. The shipping is high because it is a heavy mixer- and of course package needs to be insured.

If the S&H is too high for you-and I understand that totally, look for sales at local department stores- I feel you will love the KA mixer.

Over the years the reviews of Kitchen Aid products have been consistently high. WP's have been hit and miss, sometimes he comes out with a real dud.

I'm not a big believer in celebrity chef products. I'd go with the KA even if you have to get a less jazzy model.

Hi disneynut57 .. :-)

I have most all of WP's Stainless Steel Cookware/Cutlery since he's been on HSN, for many years, and I highly highly recommend his cookware/cutlery. I have numerous of his electronics also.

Now WP electrics, I would be much much more cautious about. I wouldn't get anything WP *electric* until i watch the *same electric item* offered for at least a min of 1 year, or 2, because so many of the features of his newly introduced electrics have to be flushed out first. Having said that, I have numerous "flushed out" electrics of his and am VERY pleased, ex (2) WP Digital Pressure Cookers, and Rice Cooker/Multi Pot, and an older model of his electric grill, and that's off the top of my head, .. I have a few more, but again flushed out, consistent models.

If you haven't been following a certain WP electric model item offered by him, I'd check his WP feedback for that item and how far back does the feedback for that item go. Plus, how often do you plan to use the item.

My contact with his Customer Service, for whatever reason, has been incredible also.

I hope this helps! Good luck! :-)

Great advice :) The major advantage over Kitchen Aid Stand Mixer over Wolfgang is your mixer can be 10 years old or 30 years old and the parts can still be gotten from Kitchenaid or Amazon - you will not find that on Wolfgang Puck as his models change periodically and you can't readily get replacement parts...

I can not fathom having anything other than a Kitchen Aid in my home. I am on my second one, the first one is perfectly fine, I will be passing that on to one of my daughters, I just wanted a larger one.

I have the exact one you are contemplating on purchasing and I can tell you this, my mother had the 550W, 6-qt but wanted another color. (she will be handing her white one down to my other daughter) Two years ago I went to the Kitchen Aid website and for $189.00, was able to purchase her a black graphite, 550W, 6-qt stand mixer, free shipping and a free attachment. I received it within 5 days of ordering. Don't rule out the Kitchen Aid website and you can always call and ask if they are having any promotions.

They are the true workhorse of your kitchen and as other posters stated above, there is absolutley no comparison to any other mixer out there.

Get a target red debit card. It saves you 5% off all purchases and free shipping if you order online. Target sells KA mixers at a good price, plus the extra 5%. My husband had his grandmother's KA mixer when I married him 10 years ago. It must have been from the 50's or something. I had a KA mixer and gave his back to his mother. My KA mixer is probably 15 years old and works like a charm.
