Is there a cheese flavored seasoning you can put on popcorn?

Started 1329097235.783 in Kitchen & Food Talk | Last reply 1329767045.293 by amartinezfan

I was talking to my grandma today and the conversation turned to popcorn, which she loves. She particularly likes the cheese flavored popcorn from The Popcorn Factory tins. She has to watch her salt intake and was wondering if there was a cheese flavoring she could put on her own air popped popcorn. Thanks for any info!

The Spice Barn carries around 2 dozen popcorn seasonings. You might want to try that site. Click here http://spicebarn.com/popcorn_seasonings.htm for flavors.

I've also seen them in my local grocery stores, in the popcorn section.

Is there a low sodium option to the Grated cheeses on the market?

We use the Kraft Parm Grated cheese but it does have quite a bit of sodium.

Come to think of it, I just yesterday was thinking about a garlic olive oil spray (or pump spray). To spray on hot popcorn. I haven't tried it. Just was thinking about the possibility. Can spray it on toasted french bread, too. Has anyone tried it?

I recently purchased some shake on cheese powder from Target. They had two or three brands.

I use the cheese powder from the Kraft macaroni and cheese.

I recently noticed lots of flavoring in the popcorn aisle of both Walmart and Target. I guess you would have to look at the sodium content, tho.

QVCaddition, I had read about people using nutritional yeast in place of cheese so I bought some because I love cheese, but could do without the fat and sodium. Have you ever made a "cheese" sauce with yeast, and if you have a tried and true recipe, would you be willing to share?

Thanks,

Thank you for the replies, they've been very helpful! I was just at Target and forgot to look in the popcorn aisle to see what they carried. {#emotions_dlg.mad} That yeast powder suggestion was very interesting. Do you buy that at the grocery store or at a vitamin store?

I found mine at a vitamin store. It's called nutritional yeast.

I found some at Bed, Bath & Beyond, of all places. I guess the cheese flavoring falls under the "Beyond" category.
