Need someone to enlighten me re. Judith Ripka's jewelry . Why is it so pricey? Her pieces are lovely but in my opinion somewhat overpriced. Please advise why I am wrong.

It is waaaaaaay overpriced. Silver is selling for $20something an ounce. There is no way a bracelet or necklace is worth hundreds of dollars. People are buying her name. I have a couple of her pieces but they didn't cost a fortune. I would never pay a few hundred for a silver or clad necklace.

If people like it, great. They can spend their money as they like.

Peace

I love my Ripka but have been collecting less in the last 18 months due to price. When a pricier piece grabs my attention and wrestles me to the ground, I'll pay the regular price...but that is the exception, rather than the rule, for me. I love getting good stuff on clearance or as an OTO, etc.

Why so pricey these days? Capitalism at its finest (or not so finest, depending on your point of view.) As long as people will pay, the prices will remain at a level that, IMHO, exceeds reasonable profit after factoring material, manufacturing etc. and 'intangibles' (like the fact that Judith is one heck of a designer.)

I cannot tell you that you are wrong, because I think you're right. And I buy much less, and certainly far more carefully, than I did two years ago because of it.

Should people pay the high price? Personal choice, not for me to judge anyone except myself.

Ditto. Her gold clad is also waaaaaaaaaaaaaaay overpriced.

BB's designs are unique. JR's are boring, and same old, same old, and she uses cheap Diamonique. Anyone who thinks it looks like real diamonds is clueless. The gold on her clad pieces look nothing like real gold.

Yep. It's overpriced for what it is. All but the diehard faithful know this.

I see Barbara Bixby is charging over 300 dollars for cheap DRUSY, laughable.

I agree with the "Oh Brother!!"

If you think her jewelry is over-priced then don't buy it. No one is making or wanting you to. That leaves more to the rest of us who like her jewelry.

Pansy, you signed on with your first post only to slam Judith Ripka's line and prices?

Each to our own. When others have to pay for our purchases, only then can they complain. I feel the same way about where my tax money is going. Each to our own.

Well, it is expensive, that's true, I agree. Overpriced? Yeah maybe. Probably (maybe not when it's a piece with all sterling and semi precious stones, though, her silver is very heavy and substantial). But I'm still going to buy it. I like it, I can manage the cost, and it makes me happy. I'm not buying it because it says Ripka, cause most the people in my world don't know who that is anyway, I'm buying it because I like the look and I know of no one else at a cheaper price (or at any price for that matter) who does something like she does. Yeah, I would love love it if it were cheaper, but it's not. It is what it is as Judith likes to say :)

I'm not sure how you can say Diamonique doesn't look like real diamonds. How is that possible? Most of us here probably have a diamond(s) to compare it to, and it does look look like the real deal, especially in smaller sizes, since that size is more believable in general. Judith uses lots of tiny diamonique to accent and you can't tell those tiny stones aren't real.

{#emotions_dlg.rolleyes} I've seen diamonds that didn't look as good as Diamonique.

pansy, buy what you like. It's the hosts jobs to sell the jewelry and, looking at the numbers, they do a great job. Or try a piece from here or elsewhere. If you love it, great. If you don't, return it. You will find no zealots here just people who like her designs and don't mind if anyone else does or not. Women who really love jewelry often like and buy from several/many designers. You will find that on the Ripka forum.

I assume its because of the increase in the price of silver and gold. Maybe its because shes so popular with QVC buyers. I bought her pieces when she first came to the Q and I am REALLY glad. I own a necklace that I paid $125-$150. The necklace is very chunky and I truly believe it would be double if not triple the price if it were made today.I have a three stone ring Bluetopaz/peridot and it was under $60. Almost all of the rings are over $100.

I beg your pardon....JR's gold clad it stunningly beautiful....and the diamonique shine just like real diamonds....yes, its pricey....but so is BB...MD....

I have only been able to collect a few of the JR pieces and I must say I love them. Most of them were at clearance prices as I think they are a little expensive, but all jewelry is these days. I just love her classic look and how all the pieces coodinate with one another. It took me a while to see what everyone else saw in her pieces, but after I chose the right pieces, I am hooked. I used to admire Barbara Bixby, but for my lifestyle it is just too busy and ornate for me. I used to love the more "artsy" styles like BB, but my tastes have changed to a more refined style like JR. I know I will have these pieces forever and can where them almost anywhere with anything. Looking forward to the TSV in July. I am hoping it is a great pair of classic earrings as that is what I need the most. Also, as for the Diamonique stones that she uses, there is absolutely no way I nor anyone else can differentiate them from genuine diamonds. They are beautiful.

I don't know why people continually attack JR's prices. JR is a high end designer with a great deal of name recognition. Her prices sell in her stores for thousands and thousands of dollars. the only other silver designers that equal her in high end design name recognition are David Yurman and John Hardy. have you checked their prices lately? They are right in line with JR's pricing.

Oh bother!

Fluffy and her "Troll Patrol" are out again!

The immaturity level of grown women really astonishes me! Troll Patrol needs to go back to high school and get some maturity.

Have you met or seen my friend Harvey? Harvey loves Judith Ripka and her jewelry!! He says," Judith Ripka makes me very "hoppy!"

{#emotions_dlg.sad} I would say that all of Judith Ripka items are very over priced, I am guilty of buying many of her pieces, as i do love her jewelry, however i am very select now when buying...MJS
