PIA cuff TSV as an OTO--a rude awakening!

Started 1355444550.337 in Judith Ripka | Last reply 1355955239.553 by Debbie1426

What is the point of rushing in to take advantage of a TSV when it shows up nine months later as an OTO? Honestly, I'm shocked! I feel taken in as well. I bought this cuff as a TSV thinking it would save me money only to realize that I paid $100 more than I might have if I had waited. Why, when there are so many items in the Ripka inventory, would the powers that be make a move like this? I'm disheartened!

That's why I like to buy OTO's. They can never sell it for less. They do the same thing on SHOPNBC - I bought some Kinkaids when they had the Top Value and a few weeks ago both pieces were marked down over $100 less then what I paid for each of them(and they didn't even wait that long - I'm still paying their value pays for them! That hurt!

That is my thoughts exactly. I have this cuff (and love it) but I also bought it when it was a TSV. I thought I had paid more for it and checked and sure enough I paid $100.00 more for it...was shocked. I thought TSV was supposed to be lowest price ever. I called customer service and expressed this to them and sadly they told me they could do nothing about it. And I also remember her saying when selling this as a TSV that it was a limited piece and would probably not be back. So so much for getting a TSV at the best price.

I also agree, and considering when this was the tsv, it was pitched as a limited edition buy it now special item. I am also upset because when it was the tsv they claimed this is the lowest price this item will ever be offered...I'm on hold with CS right now to express my extreme displeasure.

When it's a One Time Only price is the lowest price it will ever be. This happens alot with TSVs - especially when they don't sell out and want to get rid of their inventory.

It used to be that OTOs were only new merchandise. I don't mind if they're older pieces, but I do mind when they were TSVs. They used to say that the TSV would be the lowest price ever on a piece. That went out the window.

smarty1355445977.453035 PostsRegistered 11/16/2005

Sammy, they still say that...I just called CS and complained rather strongly! Of course they didn't do anything, but to me this is a misrepresentation of the price of the product. I might have been ok with $20 or $30...but a $100 difference is rather insulting. I was also told that there were 7000 original pieces and what was put "on clearance" as an oto was what was left.

yeah, I am feeling a little dumb for falling for the TSV hype...and for paying $100 more for this bracelet{#emotions_dlg.thumbdown}

...I know there are times I have gotten clearance or OTO prices...so I guess things even out in the long run...but still...

I have seen this on 3 other JR TSV's in the past. It is upsetting.

It's more than an upsetting marketing strategy. I can't understand how QVC couldn't anticipate the backlash! I will also be complaining to corporate.

I have also seen it on other TSV's, but never $100 difference!

Yes, that's happened to me with other TSVs - that's why if I can't absolutely live without it, I won't order. It worked to my advantage today.

Also, something else I've noticed and I won't fall for this trick again - now I'm not saying this happens all the time but it happened to me a couple of times - when they say it's the last day at the Featured Price and it will be retiring - that usually means they will raise the price for about a month and then before you know it it's a OTO at a rock bottom price or at a clearance price. I fell for this a few times - bought 2 monaco rings because they were raising the price. Then a few months later it was the OTO at $100 less....

I too bpught the bracelet on the TSV & I AM FREAKIN' MAD!!! I did the math & with the free s&h it's about a $170 saving from the original price (not TSV price) What a screw job. SHAME ON YOU QVC!!!!! {#emotions_dlg.thumbdown}{#emotions_dlg.thumbdown}{#emotions_dlg.thumbdown}{#emotions_dlg.thumbdown}

I too called and complained to a supervisor. She did suggest I purchase at the OTO price and return the one I purchased as a TSV. I think I will do that since they wouldn't make any effort to price adjust. I will call corporate as well. I always thought the TSV was the lowest price an item would be. Think of all the poor people who just spent almost $700 for the wide one when they could buy 3 of these and have even more splendor!

They probably wanted to get rid of these so the more expensive, wider cuff is all that is available. I snagged one and when the on air presentation said free shipping & handling, I called CS and they very graciously adjusted my online order to remove the S&H. The larger cuff is gorgeous but I will get more wear from the smaller cuff. Anxious to see it with my hematite pieces, as well as with a very nice EFFY diamond basketweave cuff I have.

This must happen when the item doesn't sell or they have too many returns, so then there is inventory that must move.. I had ordered the bracelet as the TSV, and it was stunning, but I couldn't justify the price. And that may be another issue. I love most of her designs, but JR's items are getting very pricey, inviting buyer's remorse! The profit margin is obviously huge to be able to offer the OTO price and still make a profit. I agree, it's like a bait and switch. Sorry for those who got caught - it is a stunning piece, though!

I always thought Q never put an item lower than the TSV price. And if cs told you they sold what was left, well, Jane said they "only brought in 900" for the OTO. That implies to me they brought in new stock. I would be upset if I had paid $100 more for it. I also thought this bracelet was a smaller version of the one that was a TSV last spring because I had thought Q didn't mark things down below the TSV price. I have realized ShopNBC sells their TTV for a lower price later, but I didn't realize Q did it as well.

Just fired an e-mail to CS questioning the decision to offer a TSV as an OTO at $100 less than the TSV price and with free S&H! Suggested they come up with something to address the lack of consideration for those of us who trust the TSV to be what it claims--a special value!

Not sure I get how this will benefit you kiwi....the TSV cuff was purchased in March...how would you get a refund on that price and then buy the TSV at the new price? What am I missing.

I will not be discussing this with customer service. The corporate office is the only place with the power to do anything about this type of thing. That is where I will be directing my disgust with this ethical issue.

How could CS tell you to return the one you bought as the TSV - that TSV was quite a few months ago, I thought you could only return something within 30 days (other then their Christmas return policy).

I guess I have a different view on this. There are no guarantees in life. I bought the bracelet many months ago and have enjoyed wearing it. It could have gone the other way. They may never have brought it back and I would not have ever gotten it. Life is too short to worry about these types of things.

I know it stinks to be on the losing end of things but doesn't everything eventually go on sale?? Not sure when the bracelet was a TSV but you have owned, hopefully loved and wore it since then. Of course we all love a great sale, but you can't win every time.

Treeboys, I guess you posted as I was typing. Love you attitude and you are absolutely right!

From pricing policy..... Today's Special Value® Every day since 1987, we've offered one item at an exceptionally low price good for that day until 11:59 p.m. ET. That's Today's Special Value.

Right - some times you win (I did tonight) - but I lost when they pushed the monaco rings - last day at Featured Price (I bought 2) - then they raised it for a month and had it at a OTO at $100 less...so I paid $200 more - actually $400 because I had 4 of them....but it all works out - sometimes I win, some times I lose.

And like I said above - they all do that. SHOPNBC is great at that...I usually lose with them - right off the bat I can think of 2 Kinkaid's and an American West handbag - all Top Value's and all marked down $100 less then the Top Value price before I even paid them off.
