They were sitting Shiva which is a Jewish tradition that takes place 7 days after the burial.
It is my understanding that sitting Shiva is a 7-day event but nowadays it can be done anywhere from 1 to 7 days.
Melissa hosted it at her home. Usually, sitting Shiva is a mournful and reflective time, but I've read that people were remembering Joan and celebrating her life and there was laughter and tears.
I'm not Jewish so if there are any Jewish members on this forum they may be able to explain it better.
RIP Joan
