Good morning pearl queens.... Time to start a new thread I see. The coffee pot is on with a new blend from SB. Chocolate Pearl blend... Smells great. I will be around with the pot in a few minutes... Anyone for one of Crusty's freshly baked cinnamon rolls?

Default A Weekend spent in Paradise at The 2014 RUCKUS by 2 crazy pearl lovers

The big day is finally here! Have not slept much all week dreaming about pearls and I don't think I will get much sleep in the next few days either. But oh well what is a girl to do?

My youngest son loads the car while I finish getting ready. I am making a quick stop in Long Beach to drop him off at a buddies. I am glad he is riding with me so I can drive in the fast car pool lane. We leave at 8 AM so I can pick up my BFF and her Mr wonderful Hubby at noon.

First time ever NO traffic we sail up the road with ease. We even have time to stop for breakfast.

I arrive at LAX just as I think Ezzy and Mr Ezzy are landing. Give her a call and she answers...landed a half hour ago and are waiting to get a gate. Finally I see them. I am waiting with the car. Lots of squeals of happiness and hugs given with zeal. Load up car and we are off to lunch.

Thank goodness for Ezy 's GPS as we head to Pancho's in Manhattan Beach good California Mexican food is called for. It was recommended by Jeremy and his other recommendations were delish and so was this one. From past experience going to the Ruckus I know not only will it be a pearl orgy but a food one to. The Shepherd's leave no stone unturned in plying the guests with culinary delights.

We were very lucky to be invited to stay at the mansion this evening so that is where we head after lunch. Driving down the coast with a perfect, hot beautiful California day we stop for pictures of the coast line. I did not think it could get any better but of course it did because the RUCKUS had not even started yet. Pearl Paradise is having a photo shoot at the house with a professional model and crew. There is so much work involved in achieving the pictures we see in the magazines and adds.
OMG the house as we pull up is beautiful. Walk out through the living room to the terrace looking out over the lawn is the ocean. If this is not a slice of heaven I do not know what is. Greeting to a couple of very special people are made. They are working so.....
We try to stay out of the way and pearl girls being pearl girls we could not help ourselves.....we do a photo shoot of our own. I am anything but tall, thin and a leggy blond, well maybe in my dreams sometimes. But we have great pictures of some of the pearls you will be seeing over the months. Enjoy our sneak picture peeks.

Lots to do helping to get ready for the guest to arrive. We feel so lucky to be included we are happy to help out with any of the small details. Room assignments/door signs...check, Toilet paper in the bathrooms...check, flower arrangements...check, champagne glasses set out...check, wine cooling...check, windows opened...check. I even get to take Wendy to Trader Joe's for her first time...check. The devil is in the detail when 35 guests are expected for a weekend party. By the time all is in order it is getting late. We have been eating snacks so we forgo dinner. But bff's get to share pistachio ice cream, one container 2 spoons. Heaven!

I usually hunt for a quiet spot to make my bed. This year under the stairs was to small. I choose the powder room as my spot this year. But since the three of us are in the gigantic house this evening I decide to sleep on the living room couch tonight. The wind is howling, the front gates can't be closed the awnings are flapping so I sleep with my phone in hand big chicken that I am.

Early morning hours on the coast are peaceful and this morning is no exception. I think Ezzy and Mr Ezzy are up close to 6 because I smell coffee as my head lifts off the pillow. We watch a little morning TV while sipping the morning brew then adjourn out to the terrace to watch the morning clouds lift over the ocean. What a view!

A look at the flower arrangements we did last night and we find them lacking...what to do, what to do.. eureka, Wendy clippers in hand decides to raid the gardens. What a difference she made inside and out!

Jeremy arrives and we get the chance for a relaxing conversation before we depart to Pearl Paradise. Before we do there are beds to be made.

The GPS fails us. Sends us over the mountain, down a valley, along lots of roads we have never heard of. Beautiful scenery but we wanted a fast get us there route wahhhhhh. Good thing there was not any desert but we hit every back road in LA. Finally we arrive at Pearl Paradise. WooHoo

Hugs to the staff, and visiting with Chenai, John TPO, John designer, and Angela, (photos). We finally get to meet in person PK1 from TPO from way back. If you are a long time Pearl Queen we used to post with this man. It was fun finally being able to meet another pearl friend from our past. He is just as nice in person as he was way back then. Now we can just call him at PP instead. Welcome back to our pearl community PK1 John.

Prowling the vault Ezzy is already shopping. But never fear she is taking lots and lots of pictures. I am to distracted by the long awaited pearls Jeremy has had in his desk for me. The famous "Loot" Peacock Tahitian pearls that I missed out on many years ago I now have a chance to have something close to them. I am clapping my hands with glee at the sight of these.

Hugs and more hugs are given because Elizabeth, Pattye, Marianne, and Barbara have arrived. There are lots of pearls in the vault to prowl and paw though. There is a cart with lots of gallon bags with names on them. Me being nosey I spy one with Barbara's name on it. She is deep in conversation with the girls I start calling her name trying to get her attention. One of my all time favorite memories this RUCKUS is how her eyes go wide and I mean from eyebrow to chin when she spies the bag I am holding up with her name on it in my hand. She speeds around the big table to clutch the bag and pour them out. A very happy girl is she.

Ezzy and I head back to the house with lunch for good man MrEzzy.

When we get back to the house there are already guests arriving. Thank goodness Mr Ezzy has it all under control with the room assignments Jeremy and Hisano have prepared. We eat a late, late lunch in the kitchen.

Mikeyy is here plus 2 new attendee's. Time to change and get ready for the evening festivities and await all the others.

As the rest of the guests arrive in a slow trickle we show them to their rooms or at least point the way because their names are on the doors. The sweeping stair case is going to be problematic for my stair adverse knees. Oh well.

The day has been beautiful again. The weather is perfect not too hot, the evening ocean breeze is picking up just enough to make it nice. We are out on the terrace champagne is handed out for a Pearl Guide toast. As we lift our glasses the sun is getting ready to set. Pictures are taken and then dinner is served. Let's just say we were wined and we dined like kings and pearl queens at each and every meal all weekend long.

You can't get this group together without showing pearls even if the main show and tell was planned for tomorrow afternoon. We actually could have done nothing but show and tell pearls for 3 solid days with no other plans. What made this evening so wonderful was that you got to see in person strands that you watched being chosen but now around the neck of new pearl friends.

I am not going to write much about who showed what I will let Wendy's pictures speak for themselves because she took many. But I will say this....strands of Douglas's Sea of Cortez pearls came out to be shown in all of their glory. These have been pains takenly grown by their papa Douglas and lovingly collected by the women in this room. It was a reunion of Sea of Cortez pearls. A long rope and several strands plus mabes. A small aside here, these are rare, very rare pearls. They start with 100,000 spats and seed 20,000 to 40,000 oysters. The year I got my first 2 Sea of Cortez pearls their harvest was only 1,700 pearls after seeding 20,000 oysters. This year was a record harvest after seeding 40,000 oysters it is 4,000 pearls. Nature is a very hard mistress.

Lots of trying on of others pearls. Pearls were passed from hand to hand. Finally the east coasters started drifting off to bed.

A few of us diehards were left around the dining room table talking and low and behold it was announced by Mikeyy he had suit case of pearls. WHAT???? Needles to say we needed proof that a man traveled with a suit case of pearls. Off he trotted to return with a treasure trove for us to dig though. At first we were very shy, he would reach in and pull out a bag and commence to explain where and when they were acquired. When the newness wore off we dug through that case with renewed vigor. When something was found that was extraordinary all would stop and point like a bird dog. Sherri had a pile of to think abouts and so did Marianne, I had several I liked but one I kept coming back to. I think it was around 2 am when I finally trotted off to bed in the library. The east Coasters will be up at six when the caters arrive and ring the bell so I know I would be too. When I shut my eyes all I see is pearls and more pearls. To be continued.......

I was at my library book club last night when I got to talking with a lady who owns a pawn broker store here in town. She saw that I was wearing pearls and she said to me that "I can't sell pearls at the shop for any price--no one wants pearls anymore you can't give them away. They are not stylish." I responded that they are very popular with me.

What do you think of her statement? If they were not popular why would the rich and famous and royalty wear them?

Saturday the BIG day has arrived. It will be totally devoted to pearls nonstop until our eyes close well after mid night.

Breakfast is just delicious. Sitting on the terrace on a cool misty morning people ebb and flow through. It is like a kaleidoscope of people from all three forums, pearl soul sisters becoming good in person friends wearing pearls you drooled over in the privacy of your own home. Now only to drool over them in person.

Ezzy has lots of questions about shell and nuclei from Mikeyy and when the suit case is mentioned he is sent to retrieve it. A few newbies sort through it but they really don't know what to believe so it remains open on a lounge for a time.

In passing through the living room to fill up my coffee cup I happen upon the PP IT wiz Scott setting up for the days presentations and he asks me where I want him to set up for the interviews? Interviews????? What interviews? I guess I am glad I did not know what was planned because I would over think it all. Jeremy forgot he had asked Scott to prepare for them so it was a surprise to us all. I was game as long as it was a Lucy and Ethel show. Me and stairs, no, but this called for me climbing them to talk it over my side kick couldn't do it without Ezzy. We talked about who we would like to talk to because we had questions we thought you all might like to hear the answers to. We quietly asked them during the morning hours to prepare what they wanted to talk about or show or what we would like them to bring in with us.

Come down and get ready for the day. Walk through the foryer and look out the door and there is a group hunched over the fender of Jeremy's Tesla waving little baggies of pearls. OMG Douglas has his out there and my feet couldn't move fast enough. Wendy, Cathy, Rhonda is just arriving to the mansion she stops plus several others my mind blanks because I had eyes only for one big, big peanut shaped SofC pearl. As soon as it is in my hands one looks and it is love I seal the deal with Douglas. WooHoo and is it a beauty and mine all mine. Ezzy's passion is cherry pearls and one of Douglas' beauties is that wonderful cherry color. Her name went on that little baggie. Rhonda had her picks, Cathy had hers and several others were happy girls too. Those pearls did not last long at all. I was like the cat who ate the canary.

It is now just 9 AM and time to get ready for the talks. I am just going to list them here. Ezzy has pictures to post. Over the next few weeks/months they all will be posted several of the usual places after a little editing for all to enjoy. I know I will watch them several times because of the good information that was shared.

Jeremy gave a warm welcome to us all. Thank you's to the Pearl Guide Admins Blaire and Caitlin.

Next up and in order was Douglas of Sea of Cortez Speaking on Restoration of the native pearl oyster beds in the Sea of Cortez, Josh of Kamoka Sustainability and Tahitian pearl culture, next up was a Q and A with Douglas, Josh, Jeremy Shepherd , and Sarah Canizzaro of Kojima and at noon we break to eat a fabulous lunch.

One PM we start up again with Blaire Beavers her presentation of Pearl Guide News, Nacre and the Latest trends in the Pearl Industry. Followed by Hisano Shepherd with her stunning little H new lines. Nobody stayed in their seats for this one we crowded around to get a much closer look at her beauties. last but not least Sheri Jurnecka with her very special designs.

The rest of the afternoon was spent looking at everyone else's pearls. Sarah's was on one part of the dining room table and that suit case of Mikeyy's was on the other. Josh set up shop on the grand piano top. Hisano remained on the presentation table.

For me I had asked some of the ladies on Pricescope to bring a few of their special pearls that I NEEDED to see. I was not disappointed at all. Their collections are just breathtaking. The pictures that have been posted do not do any of these pearls justice. Stunning collections all, each and every one of them!

At some point I was out on the terrace and I had asked Cathy who is the proud owner of the original famously called the "Loot" peacock Tahitian pearls if she had brought hers and she had. She pulled hers out and I put my new ones beside them. Luster...check... the same, woo hoo, body color...check...the same, woo hoo, peacock over tone the most important .component..CHECK... the same, woo hoo. About that time Jeremy appears and he can look down on the table and compare them, He says "oh the "Loot pearls" and their fat sisters". My pearls have been named by Jeremy and they will forever be called "The loot pearls fat sisters". I am so good with that. My pearls all have stories attached and this is a good one too.

Back into the kitchen I go for water and I run to Barbara and Sylvie. I have been wanting to spend more time with them it is time for a show and tell of all their pearls. These girls have TDF collections. One after another are unveiled to be examined. I am thrilled to have seen them and pictures do not do them justice at all. Others stop by to join our merry group and were we merry. I start talking about a pearl I was thinking about of Mikeyy's. Sylvie is wondering about white ss and golden's and Barbara wants to see some too as well as Rhonda. I bring some of his treasures to our table and pass them around. They are scooped up faster than you can snap your fingers. Will let them disclose what caught their eye but I will say when they saw them eyes were popping out of their heads and there were wide smiles too. Mikeyy's suit case was considerably lighter after the girls made their selections. No telling where Ezzy has been but I am sure she has tales to tell too.

I am off to prepare for the evening's festivities.

Ennui, did you see the 36 inch tahitian, golden and white south see tin cup necklace on the PP sale sight? Man I love it but I also want to get the special august strands next month too. I wonder how much they are going to go for?

I suspect that the pearls that people want to pawn are simple white Akoya strands. I was at a jewelry consignment store last month, and those are the only pearls they had. They had some wSS pendants, and some Tahitian pendants, but everything that people want to sell was fairly classic (and a little boring).

I did see that 36" tin cup, but I wanted the fireball earrings that sold out in a blink. {#emotions_dlg.sad}

smarty, she did not have nice pearls I have been there before. She has honora quality and chalky white pearls.

Ennui, what do you think of the 36 incher though? I wonder if If would get a lot of wear from them this fall and winter. I have a strand of white 32 inch rounds from PP and I don't wear them as often because they feel formal. The tin cup seems less formal.

Can someone tell me who or what "TPO" is?

Thanks for sharing the narrative of events newberry. I got a glance at some of the photos of the fine folks who attended. The pearls worn and displayed are absolutely yummy. Hisano's Sea of Cortez pearl piece Matryoshka is amazing.

I have a regular 18" Tahitian tin cup that I wear A LOT, because it can be worn with t-shirts. Also, it's not too heavy for summer and I can rinse it with water on sticky days.

Don't hesitate, there's only one.

Btw, since I'm still here, it appears that QVC has suspended my account (again). I suspect that when I log out at the end of the day, I won't be able to get back in. *sigh* Wanted to mention it in case I disappear. *poof* {#emotions_dlg.blink}

Ennui, I have a 16 inch tahitian baroque that I wear all the time too from PP. Just love it. I think I am itching to press buy on that necklace! I don't have any of the golden pearls.

Also, I do not understand why you are being suspended? That's just crazy. It sounds like to me that someone on this board is targeting you --you should be the one to complain now before it is to late.

Ennui, I cancel items too and I return, but I have not received 'the letter.' How much do you have to cancel and return before they cut people off?

I don't know their formula. I think my cancellations were around 60% (order and reconsider the next morning). I know for returns, they don't factor in the reason for the return, which isn't really fair to the customer.

Butting in here to say that piece has been in and out of my cart too! I adore the tin cup I purchased earlier during the sale...haven't taken it off (well except to sleep and go to the beach)...I love the look of a tin cup. So simple but so complex! The pearls look lovely on that one, so please post a real world shot when you receive it!
