Jewelry Talk

Real gold and the forgotten customer

Started 1371387513.81 in Jewelry Talk | Last reply 1371762984.02 by CalmInTheHeart
Late last night, I called customer service and inquired where I could write a letter request to David Marstein. I was given the information and I'm in the process of requesting a 14kt gold show. From the posts there are many viewers not only missing the real thing, but can afford the real thing so why not give them a segment of sold14kt gold? The whole gamit of bracelets, earrings and necklaces - granted the show isn't is for everyone, but it will satisfy the gold buyers who seem to be ignored.

ITA. I've been saying for years that they are missing a large market by not offering quality 14k gold products in the 4-10 gram range. Heck, I'd even be happy with 10k at this point.

Even silver is $23 per ounce and they're filling silver with resin and stainless steel...how crazy is that!

But it's probably production costs....clearly enough people purchase painted resin products that are priced way too high for the metals used. They're cheap to make and expensive to buy given the metals.

Peace

Good for you! Unfortunately, the Q has tried to pass on 14 kt jewelry, lately. Have you read the reviews? Light as a feather. I recently purchased a beautiful snake chain, and it is a keeper! Hope they do have a show of 14 kt., and offer easy pay!! :)

I would love to see some genuine 14 or 18K gold that is not so lightweight and flimsy it is not worth buying...that seems to be all they have now. Would love to see some earrings and pendants.

Let's hope they listen to your suggestion!

I want some modestly sized pieces but not lightweight. I am not Mr. T. Why was the jewelry so huge yesterday? Who wears that stuff? And I want some nice peices not covered in spinel. BTW I think spinel looks horrible with yellow gold. I mean yellow plating. {#emotions_dlg.rolleyes}

The Q is going for the most customers, not niche customers who can afford X.

That is why collecting is gone and crafting is gone. Yes, there are people who can afford both, but not enough to lose an hour in most homes.

We are out there, there are plenty of girls who will splurge and buy a piece of real gold, even the substantial pieces, so QVC give us at least a show! My letter to David will be in the mail tomorrow, hopefully it won't wind up in the circular file.

But the Q already knows through their research and findings of "test pieces" what sells and what doesn't. Believe me, if the real/solid stuff was selling, they'd have more of it in every show.

I think it's great that you are writing him, and I will be interested to see if/what his reply is. But the Q doesn't do anything that isn't tested, researched and verified. It's too expensive to have an epic fail.

Sometimes a good alternative is your local jewelry store. There is at least one store in our town who resells customer jewelry. This is usually older gold, but at least it is solid gold. The jeweler verifies that it's genuine gold, you get a fair price and store customer gets some money for the gold. I have gotten some nice, hefty weight pieces this way.

Is there a reason you need it in a show versus buying online without a show? Maybe special prices? Searching 14k brings 58 pages of results, so I know it's there. Maybe you could write a second letter and ask for some special online pricing if they won't do a whole show.

You'd have to check all those pieces to see if they are made in China, hollow, resin filled. You could also bet your bottom dollar that they are going to be extremely light weight

VaBelle, don't you think that if they'd publicized a gold show they would get a response. Don't need 4000 pieces of a specific item just 100 or so; similar to the limited pieces of the arte d' oro line. I know there are men out there who will buy gifts as well as women who treat themselves. Incidentally, girls there is no e-mail for the buying offices, just U. S mail - they're hiding! LOL

Why don't you post the address so that those interested can write a letter also. As a writer letter who has seen many things change (due to many letter writers requesting the same) I can tell you that it does make a difference.......back up.....IT CAN MAKE A DIFFERENCE......if QVC is interested.

It all boils down to money. My guess is that the cost would be extremely prohibitive when they.....take what gold is going for; then add on the amount QVC must add on an item to make it profitable for them to present even a full hour of REAL GOLD!

Taking into account the cost of gold and QVC's overhead, I would still write a letter.

I am no longer in the market for real gold. What I have I bought before gold started shooting up in price. My lifestyle doesn't present itself to wearing gold. These days most of my outings consist of going to dinner with a friend or friends and going to a (too large) variety of Dr's.

3Star, I salute you! We need more people like you in today's world. We need people who are willing to 'go the extra mile' for something they want. Sad but true that, in today's world, most people just sit and complain and don't take the time to, at least, TRY to make a change.

No, I don't think it would fly. Even if they had everything on advance order and only purchased what was paid for, it would not be worth an hour of air time.

I really like the idea of online only. They could market that pretty cheaply.

If we're going all gold, I want 18k. I really miss the 18k gold shows.

Oh yes, I miss the Wednesday night gold show. Nordstrom is advertising a huge gold sale and requesting additional sales staff for the onslaught of customers. My sister is working the gold event in her Nordstrom and she said they have added five extra people along with bringing in extra gold inventory, so they are expecting some buying action

I miss the Everyday Elegance of 18K gold shows. Kind of gets to me that the Q is trying to act like 14K is in such an exalted position.

I haven't purchased new pieces in a very long time and have thought about getting something new. For me, I think I'd rather go to my jeweler, use their credit plan. Many times they offer zero financing, then I can afford to get a substantial piece. After all, we want it to be seen and not skimpy..........oh I sooooo remember when HSN and Q did 18K gold back 20 years ago.

Yes! Me too, I want to see real solid cast pieces in 14K. They don't have to be HUGE!!! Just solid and sturdy! New designs - rings, pendants (with 5-7 grams of gold) would be great!

I ordered Arte d'Oro citrine earrings on EZ pay day and I love them! I would buy more if they would bring new styles and offer them on easy pays!

Lovely post - there is definitely a market for quality gold jewelry in electronic retailing. I've always made an attempt to view the Vicenza shows but this year with the resin was the ultimate turnoff. Even when "jewelry quality" the material is really inexpensive and readily available. I did get a hearty chuckle however at the finale show when Lisa explained it all to us properly: "It is not the quality of the ingredients but the design that is worth the cost". She went on to cite the cost of the paint in a Van Gogh and the cost of the marble in the Michaelangelo. And now you know.

I'd watch that show, but I bet I wouldn't buy anything. As one of the lucky souls who bought classic gold during QVC's early years, I have earrings and necklaces and rings already. Most are the size that anything mid-level prices would be in today's market. And that's not what I want next. Might as well shop my own collection for that stuff.

That's why I love the bronze, the resin, the clad, etc. I can buy bolder pieces for far less than the real gold. The pieces I've chosen look great - and I saved lots of money compared to gold gold. My heirs won't care that my jewelry isn't real gold - they'll get dollars instead. Or at least they will if I don't spend my final decade of life in a nursing home.

I had problems with their CS in the past, so I closed my account with them...

I agree with you. And it would be interesting to see the reply........I believe the reason they don't have MORE pure gold shows is because the ONLY all gold shows they have are usually very BOLD pieces which are priced very high. I don't want flimsy lightweight gold....but it seems most pieces they show as real 14kt are LARGE, BOLD pieces..................and PLEASE let them combine gems & gold requiring LESS gold in the product....and YES i would go with 10kt instead of the faux items offered....fine jewelry is lovely!

I have many bold gold pieces from the early days and I still buy some when I find a good deal... Personally, no matter how much stuff I already have - I still want to treat myself to something nice.

I believe there were a number of gold pieces in the show. Although I was in and out, I saw an Arte d' Oro 18kt necklace for $2,000+ and 18kt earrings for $700+.
