Why Go To Italy?

Started 1371322872.637 in Jewelry Talk | Last reply 1372382634.123 by foxmulder1

Why do they have the show from Italy since they show the same pieces from here?

What it costs they could have lower prices. Lisa had to go twice!!

Because they can.

am wondering how many women in Vicenza are walking around wearing steel bracelets with gold sprayed over it?or resin?

how many Italians wearing steel, gold spray or resin? NONE!

They probably look at us Americans as 'their poor relation' (distant cousins) LOL

I agree. It makes no difference if they have Lisa in studio selling or in some fantasy castle in Italy.... Who cares. Save the money and donate it to the storm victims. Or give us some coupons or free shipping all day. Can the expense of sending a crew to Italy for a week to prepare for two shows on air.

I don't speak Italian, but whatever the word is for "sucker" I think is what they are saying.

upsidedown, in another thread, you wrote ...."it's just "lipstick on a pig" as my grandmother used to say!" That's what it is -- ball gowns, Italian villas ... lipstick.

At least we're spared the lectures about 18K being the standard in Italy.

I have to say, I agree with just about everything the others on this thread have already said. I have the TV on and am going in and out, up and down stairs washing windows today.

Every time I look at the show someone is barking about some piece of resin filled or bronze or electroplated jewelry. And the prices are outrageous for this stuff.

I know there are those that enjoy the bronzo, but even if I were a rose gold wearer, I just wouldn't buy something made of an alloy of copper and tin.

And the "aging beauty queen in a ball gown" thing wore thin years ago. Lisa R. is a very competent host, but these shows have been run into the ground, with same type of venue, the same over-the-top hairstyling, the same ball gowns, on and on and on ad nauseum.

About the only thing that can make it worse is when Rick comes on with his phony enthusiasm. (They kept him, but left Dave James go? Go figure).

I agree also, their overhead must be high sending the hosts and paying for their way. I really don't need to see a setting of Italy if I want to buy a piece. That would probably lower the prices substantially. Watched off and on and did see some nice pieces, but way overpriced.

I know of someone who reports overseas now and then and it is an unbelivable amount to send crew and equipment. maybe they have a deal to use overseas equipment in Italy???

It does seem silly to go all the way to Italy to present fashion (aka costume) jewelry.{#emotions_dlg.rolleyes}

May seem silly to us but this is not their first rodeo. It must be a huge money maker for QVC or else they wouldn't bother. Just think of the profit margin on each piece. Unbelievable!

QVC has a full studio in Italy, so I'm sure they are not sending a crew and equipment from PA.

Do any of you really think that the Q would lower their prices or donate more to charity or storm victims if they didn't do remotes from Italy or any other location? Seriously?

They are a business and they do what they believe is good for their business. If you don't like their prices, don't buy. If you don't like the hosts, don't watch. If you don't like the products they carry don't watch or buy. It's not rocket science.

It could be that all the pieces in Italy for the show are then immediately returned to manufacturer per agreement. I also think there are lots of people who love to watch the show in Italy. I kind of enjoy it. It's just business and you have to promote. I don't think there would be any monetary savings to the buyers if they didn't go there. BTW, this is not the first place where gold jewelry filled with resin was introduced. I saw it quite some time ago with Stefano on ShopNBC (about 1 1/2-2 years ago). I think they are just trying to find a way to make gold jewelry affordable for the average person. It's in the manufacturers' best interest too as they can't possibly sell as much as they used to with gold at the price it is now. They just try lots of different things and see what sells or works the best. I personally think they have shown quite a few very nice pieces today. Didn't watch last night except for about 5 minutes. I like the black spinel pieces. Purchased some Chuck Clemency pieces quite a while back. It's gone up in price now that it's more mainstream. Bummer.

I believe it's in the diva's contract.

I don't have the time or the money to visit Italy right now so I really enjoy seeing the remote locations. I enjoy the stories of the family businesses and the way pieces are made. To me that is interesting. Good for Lisa if she gets to go to Italy for work. I don't hold that against her. I can't see the Italian women wear jewelry filled with "a very special resin"...

Everyone has their own opinion. That is the American way!

We're supposed to be impressed and buy more I'd rather they save the money and lower the ridiculous shipping charges.

I agree. The show is broadcast in the night. Nothing moving in the background. It looks eerie, like a spooky, lonely, movie. And the price for this whole "production" must be in the thousands which means higher prices for us.

So true, and I'm not. A total joke. Just another avenue for the Diva to show-off. BORING.

Oh wow I was thinking the same thing, mj. So spooky and almost chilling backdrop. And Lisa's voice is so scary and like a scary movie I just keep thinking somebody is going to jump out of the bushes. EEEEK.

They make enough in shipping charges to send her to Italy daily.

If we don't buy their junk we can save enough money to go to Italy and see the sights for ourselves.

If QVC did not make more money during the remotes, they would not do them, its always about that bottom line.

However, I enjoy the Italy remotes, it is beautiful.

Why go to Italy? For the Pizza of course !!
