plants that are good for borders

I have a little dirt area between our pool deck and a 2' retaining wall. The dirt area measures 5" wide and 42' long. We are trying to find out what we could plant in the area that could with stand direct Vegas sun light and pool water.

Try plants that grow in that environment by you already-- certain varieties of cacti (succulents not the needled cacti!). Is the soil sandy or loamy? If its loamy, try plants that grow on the prairies like black eyed susans, ecchinacea or cone flowers, coreopsis or gaillardia.
