What fertilizer substitutes for manure?

My neighbors have fabulous vegetables, tomatoes rhubarb, you name it. They own horses and use aged horse manure in huge quantities. I just can't bring myself to handle this stuff. What are the numbers on the bag I need to approximate manure?

Can you get composted manure in bags from say Home Depot?

Milorganite which is treated sewer sludge says on the bag its 5-2-0

Nitrogen 5%, Phosporus 2%, Potassium 0%

Usually organic products are low in nitrogen and feed the microbes in the soil which then feed the plants -- instead of synthetic fertilizers which are much higher in nitrogen and feed the plants.

There's nothng better than rotted morse manure! I have a friend who had a horse pasture in the vacant lot next to her house and she'd let people rent it out and pasture their horses. So one day I came over and we gathered up all the horse apples we could and I took them home and, when the time was right, fertilized all my plants. Yowee! The stuff if really effective.

But you don't just dump "fresh from the horse" manure; it's much too "hot". You have to compost it and I don't know the ins and outs of that. But you could search the net for yourself. Good luck!
