Canada suspending visas from outbreak countries

If the risk is so low why did they decide to stop people from coming?

Re: Canada suspending visas from outbreak countries

Could be our friends to the north have wised up and are trying to prevent an outbreak in Canada. When will our oh so smart leaders follow suit?

Yes I sure wish we could follow Canada on this one...how many will have to experience this virus before they stop it..we have to just hope that we don't have an outbreak here.thank you again to all that put their safety at risk to fight this fight....and thanks to all of the military for their efforts.

So what - the doctors and nurses who are over there working have AMERICAN passports. Even if we did suspend visas they could still come home.

Yes they could still come home but they would be monitored and I am sure they would take precautions

Re: Canada suspending visas from outbreak countries

Canada suffered greatly during the SARS epidemic. My guess would be they are trying to prevent outbreaks of Ebola in their country.

If DWB (doctors without borders) knew everything about Ebola transmission, then 11 of their own wouldn't have died and others sickened.

Suspending visas, quarantining returnees from that area, and testing people who are returning from certain West African countries is prudent. The nurse in Maine is incredibly selfish. Will she pay for the consequences if, after she mixes with the public, she gets sick? In NYC we have a doctor who "self tested" while traveling among millions of people, all the while incubating Ebola and exposing an entire metropolis to it. He is now in isolation in the hospital fighting for his life.

The few must be inconvenienced for the general public good.

Re: Canada suspending visas from outbreak countries

The risk is relatively low, however there is a risk of being at the very least a carrier for up to 21 days. There needs to be a mandatory quarantine at the point of entry, or even prior to leaving the infected country.

For thousands of years humans have understood the power of quarantine. As "inhumane" as it seems to some, it is for the good of the whole and I'm afraid we've lost a lot of that in our society.

We have many Federally mandated isolation and quarantines... for: Cholera, Diphtheria, infectious tuberculosis, Plague, Smallpox, Yellow Fever, Viral Hemorrahagic Fever (hello!), and Severe acute respiratory syndromes!!

For this Administration to hem and haw regarding what to do regarding Ebola (which is a Viral Hemorrahagic Fever) is a huge mistake. There needs to clear and concise leadership regarding this, and we already have Federally mandated isolation and quarantine guidelines....

They also deny entry to USA citizens with DUI. Not incubation. Can not enter country at all.

Doctors Without Borders has had 3,300 doctors/medical personnel on rotation in the affected areas. Of those three thousand three hundred personnel, 24 have contracted the virus. That's an incredibly low number considering where they are working. These figures are from Sophie de Launay of Doctors Without Borders.
