9 weeks ago I was getting in our pool, I slipped om the second step and went down instantly, my back hit the steps and I immediately thought "oh no not again" because I have back problems. However it wasn't my back that got hurt, it's been my knee ever sense. I've been to the doctor twice, had xrays taken too, all they've done is given me tramadol which hasn't done anything for the pain, just makes me feel nauseous and then they gave me percocet which puts me to sleep. All I want to know is what do i need to do to make this pain go away once and for all? I used to walk 6 miles a day for the heck of it, now I can't even walk to get my mail. help with advice please....oh yeah, I've tried sitting with my leg elevated, and I've tried walking and suffering through the pain, help, not feeling any improvement whatsoever. Well maybe I am, at first I would say it was a 10 on the pain scale and now maybe a 7 and it's been 9 weeks.

Go to an orthopedic surgeon so they can find out if you tore the meniscus or something else. I had a similar situation and my dr couldn't find anything wrong....but the orthopedic surgeon sure did. I had a torn meniscus.

You MUST get an MRI to figure out what happened. Find an orthopedist and get one scheduled asap. You will not get any relief until you can figure out what's wrong.

I've hurt my right knee a few times, but it always has shown marked improvement in much less than 9 weeks. Even with swelling, my knee got better (never 100%) over a few weeks, and I'm a 30-year jogger. You really need to see a specialist........you appear to have done more damage than can heal on its own, or you would have seen more improvement by now IMO. Good luck to you........I know how frustrating it is to be uable to function the way you want to.

Oh thank you so much all of you, I just now called my doctor's office back and was told I need a referral so I made an appointment for tomorrow afternoon. She better give me that referral or else....I'm gonna scream. I just knew it was more serious then stupid pain pill could fix, why don't they listen better? Oh well my appointment is tomorrow at 2pm, off I hobble, I never even got any crutches, it's been miserable around here. Thanks so much!

Definitely time for a second opinion and perhaps an MRI to see what's up with the knee! You may have torn some cartilage or the meniscus or done other damage that will require surgical repair. If it were just a minor strain it should be much better by now!

gulf coast girl, I've torn both knees, and each time, as soon as the X-ray came back normal, I was sent for the MRI which found the injuries. I agree with the others that nine weeks is too long. After you know your injury, you could start on the path to recovery. Hopefully physical therapy will take care of it, good luck!

I'm thinking a meniscus tear, too. Wouldn't show up much at all on an x-ray, so you need an MRI. I had a meniscus tear in my left knee. Until I had surgery done, nothing would ease the pain. It would awaken me at night and I was living on Advil.

So after reading all your replies I spoke to my husband about how most of you are saying it's the torn thing, so I asked him "why did they just give me the xray at the beginning and not an mri"? He said cause they went the cheapest route, so I've been suffering all this time when I could have been fixed back then....dang them ....how can they just blow me off like I don't matter, this has been the worst 2 months of my life. I thank you all again for your advice. I'm getting that mri one way or another. I have insurance, pretty good too so they should have done this from the beginning.
