Dr. Scholl's Custom Orthotics

Has anyone bought these orthotics based on what their machine tells you? I have so much trouble with my feet, I wonder if these are worth a try. They are expensive for me, so I don't want to waste my money.

Re: Dr. Scholl's Custom Orthotics

Wish I could help you with this. I had a pair of custom made orthotics made by my Podiatrist way back in the 1970's. I've had them adjusted by him a couple times the first couple of months, but I am still wearing the same pair and they are probably going on 40 years old now.

I don't know anything about Dr. Scholl's Custom Orthotics, but I am wondering how they can be "custom" without someone making some type of mold of your foot the same way my Podiatrist did decades ago for me.

Nothing worse that having foot problems for sure. Don't know if you have seen a Podiatrist about this, but I would suggest doing so before putting out a lot of money on something that may not work. This of course might depend on your Medical Insurer and the coverage you have for a foot Doctor Specialist.

Best I can do on this without more info.

Re: Dr. Scholl's Custom Orthotics

Thanks John. I have asked for a referral to a podiatrist, but my primary dr. told me that my insurance will not allow me to see a podiatrist unless I am diabetic or have a serious foot ailment. Well, it's beginning to feel serious to me when I can't walk! So I am trying to figure how what I can do. My primary does nothing for me except to tell me to wear better shoes.

Re: Dr. Scholl's Custom Orthotics

Over-the-counter orthotics *can* be helpful to some people, but there are no guarantees they will help everyone. Vionic shoes and their built-in orthotics are not "custom" and they help many people, including me. I have also used Birkenstock orthotics (not the shoes) and they help my issues, but they might not help someone else's. The bummer about the Dr. Scholls is that you can't try before you buy, but I just checked their website and they do offer a refund if not satisfied (send them the UPC symbol on the package) and a printable $10 off coupon. So the $10 off should help, and you could get a refund if you felt they did nothing for you. The cost of the Dr. Scholls is about the same as the Vionic and Birkenstock orthotics, minus shipping. Many non-custom orthotics cost more. A $10-20 orthotic isn't going to do much, either. Been there, done that, wasted $$.

Re: Dr. Scholl's Custom Orthotics

Walmart I believe has the dr schools machine. You could buy them there if they don't work you can take them back. I use Birkenstock footbeds from Birkenstock shoes that have the removable footbed. I put them in all my shoes that do to have an orthotic insole. If you shop at Marshall's or TJ maxx sometimes they have Birkenstocks shoes not sandals with removable footbeds for very reasonable prices. If you can find them they work great for me. But, of course all feet are different. I hope you can get some relief.

Re: Dr. Scholl's Custom Orthotics

My husband got a pair at Walmart and he loves them! Don't know what number he ended up with but he is very happy with his. He went on-line and found that $10.00 rebate and we did get it the other day.

It's worth a shot! I know to get a prescription orthotic is very expensive. My doctor recently had me get them. Thankfully, my insurance did cover the cost for a pair. They have made a world of difference. I hate them though as I can hardly wear any shoes with them.

As AngelPuppy said, I think they might be worth a try. I have a coupon and was going to pick some up this weekend.

Dr. Scholls is a reputable brand. I have a pair of Dr. Scholls sandals that I wear as house shoes and I love them.

Re: Dr. Scholl's Custom Orthotics

I have had foot problems since I was born and being a nurse I really HAD TO take good care of my feet! IMO - ask around among your friends to find a great podiatrist and go see him even if you have to pay out of pocket for it. My podiatrist is not paid for by my insurance but only charges me $40 for a visit if he doesn't have to do anything special, and the nail tech cuts my toenails etc(she does everything a pedicure does except polish the nails)so I get that plus the doctor check up all for less than a pedi costs.I agree with john - custom orthotics are made CUSTOM for your foot by making a plaster mold of the foot first. I think mine were $350 many years ago.

Re: Dr. Scholl's Custom Orthotics

I've had custom orthotics made and they were so hard and uncomfortable that I couldn't wear them. I either buy shoes with a built-in arch support or use a pair of Orthoheel inserts. I imagine the Dr. Scholl's supports would serve most people adequately. I think custom orthotics are a racket for podiatrists.

You are supposed to wear them small amounts of time at a time and get used to them slowly.
