Trazodone for anxiety & sleep - any users?

My dr. has just prescribed this drug for sleep deprivation and anxiety. I am recovering from a total knee replacement and sleep has just not been my friend. I have tried this for 2 nights now and really have no immediate help. I am wondering if this is the type of drug that needs to build-up in your system and will take effect in a week or so. Thanks in advance for any input to your experience with this. Cheers!
