Do you still go "all-out" decorating for Christmas...

I was one of those that planned for Christmas decorating and bought tons of beautiful decorations and usually decorated for Christmas before Thanksgiving so that the house would be festive. Well in the past few years, no kids left at home and not doing any entertaining anymore, I have almost totally given up decorating. I haven't put up a tree for four years. With no one around to enjoy it with me, my dh could care less if we have a tree or not, I just don't have the ummppphh to do any of it anymore???? How about you? Do you still go all out decorating for the holidays?

Our kids are grown and gone too. I still put out some traditional home decorations (manger scenes, Christmas figurines, wreaths, greenery, etc., and we put lights and decorations on a small tabletop tree -- but that's about it. We've simplified a lot, and that's fine. Just seems appropriate at this stage -- and certainly a lot less work and trouble!

I ""ended up"" like that and not yet being 50 I felt like The Grinch.

Nobody complained but I felt really selfish doing very little.

If the ladies here have taught me anything it's that life is to be lived and shared. ""Do what makes you happy and buy what you love"".

This year I'm going to make a point of hiring someone in to clean if I need to and I've already rearranged my work schedule to allow for more days off in case the winter is as bad as last winter.

I can spend time doing what I enjoy. Cooking and baking are some of those things!

Hi Snowpuppy, Great post. I am sure that if I just got started I would love decorating as much as I used to. I have a brand new artificial tree that I bought four years ago and have yet to use it. I think I better get my monies worth and put it up. Thanks for your post.

No, my husband died last year, and I live alone, except my for my goldens, I sure use ti back in the 80's,and 90's, when our boys were growing up, but our oldest son died in 1998, he was 27, and that just stopped the desire.

"Do you still go all out decorating for the holidays?"

NOPE!

Retired, kids out of the house, grands are teenagers. The only thing I do now is put lights up around my windows. Well, they actually stay up all year round. I also hang a wreath out on my door along w/bells on the door knob. That's it!

I threw out the xmas tree eons ago because I'm rarely home during the xmas holidays. I'm either on a cruise or at a casino resort. I spend every other xmas w/the grands who live out of state.

No tree but dress up the inside with Christmas decor. We have simplified but still look festive. We use Bliss lights outside. Couldn't be easier.

Since my husband isn't a "Christmas person" and hasn't hung one ornament in the 53 yrs. married I have cut way down on my decorating. Since its totally me that puts it all up, including outside....and I also take it all down it doesn't make sense. Now if we know we will have Christmas company then I do go all out.

I used to go all out but every year I put out less and less. I find it stressful to decorate to the nines every year. I am sure I will be like my grandmother one day, I will put out a wreath and maybe a table tree and call it a day!!

No. Been there, done that. My kids are grown and I am downsizing. Small prelit tree that goes together in 3 sections. A few ornaments. A few statement pieces for decorations and that's it. I don't feel one bit guilty because no one could barely be bothered helping, want everything but don't want to help, got tired of that. Doing for myself now so I don't have to bit@h and complain and nag anymore.
