Re: dough bowl trencher - LOVE

Love this picture! I have an antique dough bowl I bought years ago at an antique show that looks almost like the first one - but it has strawberries painted on the inside - it's very old and I love it. I finally had to stop going to antique shows and flea markets!

I haven't done this kind of arrangement in it, it's smaller than the one shown, but I could do the same type of thing just using smaller gourds, etc. Thanks for posting this - it gives me inspiration!Smile

I like them too. My parents currently have my great-grandmother's dough bowl. I will gladly take it off their hands if they ever tire of it.

Re: dough bowl trencher - LOVE

I have a collection of handmade dough bowls and I love to stack them for display. shesallthat, if you ever go to the Mississippi Craftsman's Guild Chimneyville Festival ( always the first weekend in December) there are always dough bowl makers there.

Re: dough bowl trencher - LOVE

My brother got an old dough bowl that our grandmother made bread in many years ago. Homey, rustic, worn from use........it is a family treasure, one of many passed down through our large family. I love old family pieces. I have seen similar dough bowls or trenchers in antique shops, and they can be quite expensive!

Re: dough bowl trencher - LOVE

Love 'em. My grandma had several but I, sadly, didn't end up with any of them. Lots of biscuits made their way in and out of those bowls, then were dipped top and bottom in bacon grease and baked in the oven of an old wood stove.

So, I say, it is fate -

I have a couple of them. I have a bunch of small skeins of vegetable dyed wools. I like to fill one of the bowls with them for the coffee table.

Re: dough bowl trencher - LOVE

I'm ordering the VPH Toile Burlap set of 3 pumpkins (in the natural) and using one of them in an arrangement like OP pictured. I have an antique oblong dough bowl that is large and would look great done like this. Thanks for the inspiration!
