A question for someone who sews home decor.

My friend has asked me to make her a wrap around the rod type of scarf topper for her LR windows. I want to make the ends hang down about 18" at each side and be able to wrap the width of the window. I was wondering if you think fabric 2 times the width of the window is enough? The windows are 36" wide so I was thinking 3 yards per window would be enough. Also - do you think fabric 27" wide is wide enough - the fabric she loves is 54" wide and I hoped to save her some money by cutting it in half and hemming it. Thanks anyone for help with this.

Is this one of those story problems I could never solve in math class? Sorry I can't help, but I think it will look lovely.

Re: A question for someone who sews home decor.

I would suggest taking a piece of string/ribbon and wrap it around the window like you would with the fabric and then measure it. Then you could adjust the string to your liking.

As for using 1/2 the fabric width, I think it would depend on the type/weight of the fabric. Sometimes a heavier fabric won't drape as nicely.
