How much do you all give your housekeeper for Christmas?

Started 1386191324.32 in For the Home Talk | Last reply 1388440129.31 by Mindy D

Mine charges me $85 so I was going to give her $25 - which is about 25% - so I thought that was reasonable. She has only been cleaning for me since the beginning of Nov so we don't really have a friendly relationship -just a professional one.

That sounds reasonable to me.

Mine comes about once a month with a helper. I'll probably give them both $20, and I don't know them well.

Because she's so new, any tip you're comfortable is excellent.

When I had a long-time woman, I doubled what she charged me each week. She was worth what I paid her!

{#emotions_dlg.lol} my MIL always said there is nothing wrong with treating yourself!

she said: "that's alot of money to spend on a purse!" and i instantly knew we could not be friends.

I do my own housework, but if I paid someone I wouldn't give anything. I think $25 is a lot for knowing her one month.

From US News and World Report and it is just as I remembered

Cleaning service provider: Give the value of one visit. If you usually pay $100 per week, then give at least an extra $100 around the holidays

$20-$25 sounds perfect especially if you want to continue with her services

Our housekeeper has been with us for 6 years, she's a wonderful person who is always there for us when we need her in a pinch. She charges $12 an hour. She cleans for us 12 hours a week and for my disabled sister 4 hours a week, that comes to $192 a week. So, we give her a $200 Christmas present and $100 for her birthday.

My customer has her own business and has been cleaning these ladies homes for years. I know she gets at least $100 every Holiday from each one of them.

I like how she set up her business though, she brings absolutely nothing except herself, all the products and equipment are the property of the owners. I asked her why she did that, she said everyone has their own favorite brand names they want on their furniture/floors etc and it works out better that way.

To the OP'r....that's nice you're thinking of them, really they are so new that I don't believe they will be expecting anything.

Why do you keep her???

When I cleaned houses, I most often got gifts. I was especially appreciative of the folks that gave money. $20 was probably the average.

We're giving our lady $250. She works hard and is great, aside from being a single Mother. She deserves it.

Well, we don't "all" have housekeepers and I can't afford to buy myself a gift. But if I were giving a Christmas tip, I would give cash because that's what I would like to receive so I can pay a bill with it.

I have a yard guy. I give the equivalent of one visit in cash.

I let mine go this year, but I've never given her one. I always felt like $100 pay every time she came to clean was gift enough.

I also don't gift my manicurist, aesthetician or hair stylist. I just feel like I'm paying you for a service. I tip well when I'm there. Why, oh why, should I buy you a gift or give you a "bonus" at Christmas. You make money off of me all year long!

Does this make me a scrooge?!!!

It never accured to me to gift a gift when I had a house cleaner. It was two women and they had a business. I paid well for their services.

Not at all. ITA. I do the same thing. When I get my hair cut, I tip well and when I have my dog groomed, I tip well. I don't see the need to give a gift or bonus at Christmas.
